New name

[edit]

I suggest that we rename this to "Former Armed Armenian Organizations" as all of these groups are defunct now. -- Aivazovsky 22:58, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not crazy about that. They're still organizations, just inactive. Think like categories: We have Category:Artists and we don't put the dead ones in Category:Former artists. —dgiestc 07:38, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You can't compare such categories that is nonsense. This name is inappropriate "Armed Armenian Organizations" what the hell is this supposed to mean? why not have Armed American organizations, Armed Turkish organizations. But "Armed" is nonsense, these are organizations that are inactivate they haven't done a attack for decades its history. This is also neologism. Also having "Armenian terrorism" is nonsense also you can only find that from bias historians like Turks. We need something that is efficient and also clear and crisp. So we should add "former" or renew the title to "Armenian Organizations" but that obviously does not have enough description. Maybe something more neutral and less POV. I say we find something from a neutral author. The name sounds like a bank robbery scheme or some crap. We only have 3 Organizations we DO NOT NEED A TEMPLATE. This is made by Cool Cat to piss off people for no reason. She has a history of disruption at Wiki. I'm surprised she hasn't been blocked indefinitely. Artaxiad 07:47, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The template may need a rename, but the construct "former organizations" seems very odd. "Defunct" or "inactive" makes more sense. —dgiestc 07:50, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The template is just incomplete then. Like Dgies mentioned, we keep the dead artists in the category of artists. Also Category:artists is most likely incomplete as well, but we won't need to rename it. denizTC 12:34, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thats it, we should rename it to Inactive organizations but if we add Armenian its to long. Artaxiad 12:38, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I say we rename "Defunct Armed Armenian Organizations". It's long but it gets rid of the implication that the groups still exist. -- Aivazovsky 14:39, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Inactive would be better than defunct, but per Dgies, Armed Armenian Organisations is good enough, probabl better than inactive Armed Armenian Organisations, or defunct Armed Armenian Organisations. denizTC 17:00, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

But that doesn't solve anything. It still implies that there are active armed Armenian organizations when they no longer exist. -- Aivazovsky 17:23, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I guess I will need to see the source to believe that they finished in 1991 (which is when Armenia became free, so they might have reached their goal there). You know there was a threat on an anniversary, in 2000's. I don't think there are any official declarations for closing from ASALA, et al. So we should not say defunct, until we get such declarations. Inactive is the better word. It does not imply anything. Anyway, I need to leave now, I will continue later, if I don't forget about this. denizTC 17:32, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the category should be deleted all together. This category "Armenian_paramilitary_organizations" is good enough IMO. But if you insist on having the category, it should be re-named to defunct or former. ASALA is pretty much done, it's leaders have all been killed, it hasn't committed an attack it's been years and all its goals have been "accomplished". Even ASALAonline.com doesn't work, this site says they're done [1]. - Fedayee 17:40, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We need declarations of closure. Is ASALAOnline.com 'official' website, or just sympathizer's? denizTC 22:26, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure its official. -- Aivazovsky 22:37, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
