{{Infobox U.S. federal court}} is a template used to display summary information about United States federal courts, including:

Articles refer to sections of the United States Constitution.

Usage

The only required parameter for use in all cases is |court_type=. There are three different acceptable inputs: district, circuit, and tribunal. Based on the input, certain parameters will be available for use and others will not be.

abbreviation Official abbreviation of the name of the court used in case citations
seal Image of the court's seal
seal_size Size of the seal image in pixels

map_image_name Image of a map of the court's jurisdiction
map_image_width Width of the map image in pixels
map_image_caption Caption displayed beneath the map image
map_alt Alt text for the map image
courthouse Primary building in which the court resides
location Primary city, state, and country (if outside the United States) in which the court is located. If a district court, pipe the link so that only the city is displayed
courthouse1 — courthouse10 Additional building in which the court resides
location1 — location10 Additional city, state, and country (if outside the United States) in which the court is located. If a district court, pipe the link so that only the city is displayed
appeals_to Circuit court to which appeals are taken. When |court_type=district, enter only the circuit name, not the full court name (e.g. Second Circuit). The template will link to the appropriate article. When |court_type=tribunal, use normal wikitext district, tribunal

appeals_from1 — appeals_from14 Used to add up to 14 additional courts. Used after appeals_from is used circuit, tribunal
established Date the court was created. Use {{Start date}}.
abolished Date the court was eliminated. Use {{End date}}. Using this parameter will cause Defunct to appear below the abbreviation. If |court_type=district, Defunct will link to List of former United States district courts. If |court_type=circuit, Defunct will link to United States circuit court.
authority Article of the United States Constitution from which the court derives its authority. The only valid entries are: tribunal
created_by Act that created the court. Should be a wikilink to the appropriate article (if it exists). Should be followed by a line break (<br>) and a statute citation using {{UnitedStatesCode}} tribunal
composition Method by which the court is composed. Usually "Presidential nomination with Senate advice and consent" ([[President of the United States|Presidential]] nomination<br>with [[United States Senate|Senate]] [[advice and consent]]) tribunal
judges_assigned Number of judicial seats assigned to the court by statute
term_length Term length of the judges of the court tribunal
