Yertsevo
[edit]- ...
that the accounts of life in the Gulag labor camp, written by Gustaw Herling-Grudziński (pictured in an NKVD prison mug-shot), preceded Solzhenitsyn's revelations by more than a decade?

- Length and hook are fine. No copyvio. But the hook's reference is based on some reviewer on Amazon, not a typical reliable source. The reviewer may well be correct but we'll need a better source if the hook is to be retained. Or you can propose a new, better sourced hook.Hybernator (talk) 19:07, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for your review, Hybernator. Much appreciated. I added a couple more inline citations, including from A World Apart book review by Anne Applebaum and from the Note by Penguin Group on the book jacket. Poeticbent talk 16:14, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- Applebaum's web page says "10 years" (not "more than a decade") so we should change the text to reflect that.
- How about (ALT1): "...
that the accounts of life in the Yertsevo gulag, written by Gustaw Herling-Grudziński (pictured in an NKVD prison mug-shot), preceded Solzhenitsyn's revelations by a decade?" Hybernator (talk) 23:37, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- How about (ALT1): "...
- I see your point about the exact reference to Yertsevo in the hook as oppose to the Gulag system as a whole. The only problem I see with your ALT is that the Solzhenitsyn's revelations did not relate to Yertsevo specifically but the entire system of camps, and even Grudziński was a prisoner of at least two of them and did not limit his book to his experiences there. Poeticbent talk 01:03, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
- I see. On the other hand, the nominated article is about a specific gulag. But you want to compare Herling-Grudziński's revelations in A World Apart with those of Solzhenitsyn a decade later. What about this?
- ALT2: "...
that the accounts of life in the Yertsevo gulag, described in the book A World Apart by Herling-Grudziński (pictured), preceded Solzhenitsyn's revelations by a decade?" - I've removed NKVD and mugshot to keep the word count low. Hybernator (talk) 02:15, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
- We are almost there. Please see my ALT3 (below) for the combined hook from all of the above.
- ALT3: "...
that the account of life in the Yertsevo labor camp, described in the book A World Apart by Herling-Grudziński (pictured), preceded Solzhenitsyn's revelations about GULAG by a decade?" Poeticbent talk 16:31, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
- ALT4: "... that the account of life in the Yertsevo labor camp, described in the book A World Apart by Herling-Grudziński (pictured), preceded Solzhenitsyn's revelations about gulags by a decade?" Hybernator (talk) 00:15, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Sounds perfect, thanks. I crossed out the other three ALTs to avoid confusion. Looking forward to a final tick. Thanks again Hybernator. Poeticbent talk 08:56, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- good to go for ALT4. Hybernator (talk) 17:30, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
