Piano Quartets (Beethoven)

[edit]
  • ... that Beethoven composed three Piano Quartets at age 15, which were published in reverse order after his death? Source: several
  • Reviewed: Bingo Bango
  • Comment: I began the article about just one, but the longer I wrote the more it seemed to make sense to deal with them together. Will add details about the other two. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:22, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

  • I definitely agree these 3 should be in one article. I'm surprised there isn't one already, just goes to show Wikipedia work never ends :-) Although the article is important, long enough (4595), no copyvio [1], new enough (Apr 9), and properly referenced, I don't think it's quite ready yet for prime time until each quartet has it's own (short) description. I took the liberty of laying out the movements in sections just to frame it, and added a reference... hope I did it the way you prefer. I'll change review to green once you've updated them. • Oops forgot to add that the hook is just fine Ultracobalt (talk) 06:47, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
I agree but will travel for a week, and this seems not urgent, after all these centuries. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:51, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
Indeed :) Ultracobalt (talk) 18:50, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
Added a bit now. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:14, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
Ultracobalt, how does it look now? --Usernameunique (talk) 05:59, 5 May 2018 (UTC)
Delightful! --Ultracobalt (talk) 16:20, 5 May 2018 (UTC)
  • Hi @Gerda Arendt:, I came to promote this, but the hook fact (that the quartets were published in reverse order) doesn't have a reference in the article. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 04:27, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
Why would you think so? Ref #2 after the fact in History. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:44, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
Ah I see. Well that might need to be rephrased since it wasn't initially clear in the article. Restoring the original tick. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 06:29, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
  • I had to pull this, the pieces weren't published in reverse order but a different order. Also, the quartets are mixed up, they appear to have the wrong numbers, you need to check the sources again. I don't have time to try and figure out which is which, so back to the nomination page it has come. Gatoclass (talk) 17:41, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, I was confused, fixed, hopefully:
ALT1: ... that Beethoven composed three Piano Quartets at age 15, which were published only after his death, in a different order? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:39, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
Would you look again, Usernameunique? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:28, 15 May 2018 (UTC)
  • Since Usernameunique has not replied immediately, I'm reviewing ALT1. I'm not sure about the hook's quirkiness: as far as I can tell, music being published out of order is somewhat common (for example, Schubert's last few symphonies, including the Unfinished), particularly for posthumous works. Perhaps a different hook can be suggested here, @Gerda Arendt:? I know it's Beethoven, but he's had his share of posthumously published works too, which may have been released out of order. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 07:47, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
You can stop after "age 15." --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:05, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: What about simply:
ALT1a: ... that Beethoven (pictured) composed three Piano Quartets at age 15, which were published only after his death?
Readers would probably find the fact that the quartets were written early in his life but only published after his death far more interesting than them being published in a different order. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 16:03, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
If you think so. It's quite common, I'd say, but don't care too much about the wording. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:12, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
  • Since I've proposed my own hook, a new reviewer is needed for ALT1 and ALT1a. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 16:25, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
Not really, because "your hook" is just part of the other, no new fact, now different reference. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:36, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
Beethoven c. 1783
Beethoven c. 1783
Gerda, I assure you that ALT1a will be very interesting to us musical plebes, especially if we add that adorable image to the nomination. Here it is. Here is a full review: New enough, long enough, neutrally written, adequately referenced, no close paraphrasing seen. ALT1a hook ref verified and cited inline. Image is freely licensed. QPQ done. ALT1a good to go. Yoninah (talk) 22:00, 23 June 2018 (UTC)
