Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, King's Lynn
... that when he was Prince of Wales, Edward VII paid for the construction of a Catholic church because his guests were inconvenienced by its poor condition?Source: "St Mary’s was in a serious state of disrepair, its poor foundations causing settlement and cracking. This was of sufficient concern for the Prince of Wales (future King Edward VII) to complain to the Revd George Wrigglesworth that his Catholic guests at Sandringham were being greatly inconvenienced while attending Mass at Kings Lynn. The prince financed a report from the architect William Lunn, which concluded that the building was beyond economic repair. It was taken down and rebuilt under Lunn’s supervision, re-using some parts of the old building and some furnishings, including the rood, the font and stained glass. The prince contributed fifty guineas towards the cost." Historic England, King's Lynn - Our Lady of the Annunciation.

- Interesting church history, on fine sources, no copyvio obvious. - I like the iea of the hook, but think it could be worded better:
- I suggest to use the full title of the church, - the longer the bolded title the more attention!
- I suggest to have that first in the sentence, instead of lingering with Edward, and I can see some readers turning to the next offer then, instead of reading further.
- I believe that a piped link is enough for him.
- I think that "paid for it" is saying a bit too much, considering the modest sum he afforded. So something like
- ALT0a: ... that a new building of the Catholic church Our Lady of the Annunciation in King's Lynn was initiated by Edward Prince of Wales because his guests were inconvenienced by the old building's condition? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:35, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you Gerda Arendt, I found writing the hook very difficult and I greatly prefer your new hook. Cardofk (talk) 11:53, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
- That's very kind of you to say, thank you!
- I approve it, and someone finding it's too different to count as a rewording can help to a second review. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:46, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
- Cardofk A citation needs to be added after the hook information per DYK criteria. SL93 (talk) 00:52, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- not sure what you mean, - there's a citation after the sentence that he requested a report (= initiated) after complaints. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:01, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
