Dual systems model
[edit]- ... that the dual systems model posits increased risk-taking during adolescence is a result of a combination of heightened reward sensitivity and immature impulse control?
Created by Stash85 (talk). Self-nominated at 20:30, 27 November 2017 (UTC).
- New, late but see Rule D9 (also first DYK nomination), long enough, sourced, inline hook citation checks out, neutral, no apparent copyvios, QPQ not needed. Stash85, a but of a nitpick, but the standalone sentence beginning with "The term socioemotional brain network or system..." should be cited. Also, it intuitively feels like an article theorizing why young people do stupid things could have a much more captivating hook. --Usernameunique (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 06:46, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
- Stash85, not sure my ping worked (my signature didn't include a date for some reason, and a signature is needed for a ping to work), so trying again. --Usernameunique (talk) 18:23, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
- This article was nominated as part of course work, and the class is over. It seems unlikely that Stash85 will be back. Me, Myself, and I are Here, you made some edits to the article subsequent to Stash85's efforts; is there any chance you might be able to provide a citation for the sentence that concerned Usernameunique? And perhaps suggest a more interesting hook (that is adequately sourced)? Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:58, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I didn't work much with the content of the article, and I am not very experienced in hook-writing, so I'm not sure if I could provide a better hook. As for the sources, however, it seems that the hook is a sentence from the lede that uses these two sources:
- Steinberg, Laurence (2010-04-01). "A dual systems model of adolescent risk-taking". Developmental Psychobiology. 52 (3): 216–224. doi:10.1002/dev.20445. ISSN 1098-2302.
- Somerville, Leah H.; Jones, Rebecca M.; Casey, B.J. "A time of change: Behavioral and neural correlates of adolescent sensitivity to appetitive and aversive environmental cues". Brain and Cognition. 72 (1): 124–133. doi:10.1016/j.bandc.2009.07.003.
- which hopefully will be adequate. Me, Myself & I (☮) (talk) 01:53, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
- Me, Myself, and I are Here, the sentence that BlueMoonset was referring to was actually the first one here: Dual systems model#Socioemotional system ("The term ... prefrontal cortices."). As I said earlier, however, it's a bit of a nitpick, and all things considered I think we can live without a citation there. I'll propose a perhaps more interesting hook, though:
ALT1: ... that the dual systems model seeks to explain why young people do stupid things? --Usernameunique (talk) 08:45, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
- My apologies, I completely misread the thread. Holiday mode is getting to me.
- (In any case, that is a more interesting hook than before.) Me, Myself & I (☮) (talk) 09:54, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
- I was able to locate a citation for the sentence that did not have one and have added it to the article. In terms of the DYK, length and Earwigs check. Date is fungible and the nom is QPQ exempt. For the original hook the citation checks and it is approved. For ALT1 it certainly is hookier and from the sources it is clear that this is what the article is about though I leave it up to the individual promoting if they want to use ALT1 in the "quirky" slot, it also is approved.
