British Relief Association

[edit]

:* ALT1:... that the British Relief Association received a donation of £2,000 from Queen Victoria during the Great Irish Famine?

Created by WatermillockCommon (talk). Self-nominated at 19:03, 14 March 2016 (UTC).

Duplicate Detector shows too much cut-and-paste copying from the source. E.g.

  • as a result for almost nine months over 200 000 children received free rations of food daily and appropriate clothing the scheme finally ended in july 1848 when the funds of the british association were totally exhausted (37 words, 220 characters)
  • by 1 march 1847 strzelecki had provided relief in 65 localities distributing 30 bales of clothing 1 020 bags of rice and 1 905 barrels of indian meal (28 words, 149 characters)
  • rothschild kinnaird and some dozen other millionaire city princes meeting every day and working hard a far greater sacrifice to them than mere gifts of money (26 words, 157 characters)
The scope of the article and the source are the same, and the author of the source might reasonably feel that their copyright had been infringed. Regardless of the DYK process, this should be fixed ASAP. Aymatth2 (talk) 12:49, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
Hopefully this issue has now been fixed. WatermillockCommon (talk) 15:25, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
That looks a lot better. I made a few more tweaks, and also took the liberty of changing to a citation style that reduces duplication when multiple pages are being cited from one source. Aymatth2 (talk) 17:21, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
  • Fresh review needed. Aymatth2 (talk) 17:21, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
  • New enough, long enough, neutrally written, adequately referenced, no close paraphrasing seen. Per Rule D2, at least 1 citation is needed in the last paragraph under Donations. Regarding the hooks: ALT0 is verified and cited inline. ALT1 (which I feel is the most interesting hook) has no inline citation; a calculator is not a source for this fact. ALT2 is AGF and cited inline. No QPQ needed for first time nominator. Yoninah (talk) 21:38, 24 April 2016 (UTC)
  • Has a source for Donations paragraph (it was in a reference already being used). I've struck ALT1 due to no citation. Yoninah done the rest of the review - Good to go! ツStacey (talk) 10:44, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
