Suggesting AFD
[edit]This article is notable, well written, etc., but I think it's a violation of WP:CFORK to have articles for Paralympic Games, Summer Paralympic Games, and Winter Paralympic Games. I think we should move all the content into Paralympic Games and redirect the other articles.
I added an AFD template but then I removed it -- only because I wanted to hear feedback here first. I won't be able to take further part in this discussion, as I have to get back to my real life responsibilities. If someone else agrees that AFD is warranted, please do so without me. :(

- This a perfectly acceptable fork, if its a fork at all, the events run entirely separately for a start. This page should be distinct from Paralympic Games in the same way that Winter Olympics is distinct from Olympic Games. The top level article deals with things relating to both summer and winter versions (history, controversies etc which are summarised here in less detail) whereas this article and Summer Paralympic Games deal with more specific things, such as the disability classifications within the sports and should eventually contain a summary of all the Games as is seen at the Winter Olympics article - Basement12 (T.C) 14:24, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Update: As I mentioned on the author's page, I think that at the very least, two new sections should be added to Paralympic Games for the winter and summer games respectively, employing the {{main}} template. -user:Agradman (experiencing a login problem)
- Thank you for your thoughts, I agree though that this article is warranted. If for no other reason than the fact that the Olympic Games has a Winter and Summer article and I think the goal is to make WP's treatment of the Paralympics on par with the Olympic Games. I will look into what could be added or perhaps paraphrased from the Summer and Winter articles into the Paralympic Games article with a {{main}} template header. Thanks for your thoughts. - In addition to being notable enough in my book, I think combining the three would put it at size at which the guidelines for article size start to become relevant. Looking at the edit history, the summer games article is 27KB, this is 17KB, even allowing for redundant text to be removed, this would put the article at or near 40KB which is the point at which it becomes appropriate to start thinking about a fork. logical leap
[edit]This article takes a pretty big leap from "sports as an avenue to healing" to international competition. Not all sports need to be competitions, and therapeutic sport particularly so. It seems that some discussion is called for.--Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 16:41, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
- Good thought, I've added a bit more about the history of the Paralympics to help explain the movement from a regional competition between rehabilitation hospitals to an international sports movement for elite athletes. I'm not sure it quite addresses your concerns but I hope it's a start. H1nkles (talk) citius altius fortius 17:50, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

- Thanks for the review, I'll check those dead links, they weren't dead a few weeks ago so something must have happened. The issue of capitalizing "Games" has come up in a couple of other articles. The Olympic Games article, which is FA, is one example. It was decided that when referring to the Games in this context it is a reference to a proper noun (Paralympic) Games. Consequently "Games" should be capitalized. It was accepted for the Olympic Games so I figured it would be acceptable here. If you feel differently I'll happily discuss it. H1nkles (talk) citius altius fortius 15:50, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, I fixed the dead links, apparently my source moved and killed those links. I've run the checklink tool and they all come back solid so I hope that addresses your concerns. Again if you'd like to discuss the "Games" capitalization issue I'll be happy to do so. H1nkles (talk) citius altius fortius 16:03, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- If it was decided to leave it capitalized, then it's not an issue here, I'm not gonna up against consensus. I was just wondering if it was supposed to be capitalized or not. Yup, the sources are solid, though there was a ref. whose url link I changed. Anyways, thank you to H1nkles for getting the stuff I left at the talk page, because I have gone off and placed the article as GA. Congrats. ;) -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 18:16, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Winter Games photographs
[edit]A bunch of Winter Paralympic Games photographs have been uploaded by Tony Naar from the Australian Paralympic Committee. See commons:Special:ListFiles/Tony.naar. (November 25 & 26) These are some of the first photographs of Winter Games prior to the 2010 Games. The only other Winter Paralympic Games photographs prior to 2010 that I can find are File:Paralympic Curling.jpg & File:Joe tompkins 2002.jpg. Some of these photos at commons:Category:Australia at the 1988 Winter Paralympics must be Michael Milton. Is anyone able to identify him? John Vandenberg (chat) 23:47, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
