Merger discussion

Proposing merging Wiltshire Archaeological and Natural History Magazine into this article. The magazine is the dedicated journal of the society and it makes sense to deal with the two together.Tacyarg (talk) 12:27, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose: Both are notable and will need a lot of space when decent articles develop. See, for instance, Wiltshire Record Society, which is a spin-off from both. Moonraker (talk) 22:30, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Support. The magazine article is a stub, and the society article is a very short start. The topic is a narrow, local one, and it's unlikely that either article will be expanded substantially any time soon. From the reader's point of view, there seems nothing to lose and everything to gain from merging. Compare e.g. Somerset Archaeological and Natural History Society, Bristol and Gloucestershire Archaeological Society, Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire, London and Middlesex Archaeological Society, Surrey Archaeological Society and many others, none of which have separate articles for their journals. If and when the articles grow to a substantial length, they can be split again (compare Cambrian Archaeological Association and Archaeologia Cambrensis – I can't immediately see any other examples for county societies). Wiltshire Record Society is a quite different case: although it has its roots in the archaeological society, it's now a completely separate body, and its article is substantial. Withdrawing proposal - given the length of Wiltshire Archaeological and Natural History Magazine now Moonraker has enlarged it, I think I need to withdraw the merge proposal. Thanks to both of you for your views. Tacyarg (talk)
