Status as a formal place

[edit]

@REA Cameron: has raised concerns with this article, noting that the locality referred to as "Williamsdale" is formally classified as rural land within the district of Tuggeranong. It is also true that the ACT place names search does not return any results for Williamsdale, and census data captures only the area east of the old railway line as "Williamsdale", thus it is wholly within New South Wales. However, some official ACT Government planning documentation, such as the land release program refer to a suburb called Williamsdale located at section 1405 within the District of Tuggeranong. Local media also refers to the abandoned service station on the Monaro Highway as the "Williamsdale garage" and the Solar farm which is wholly within the ACT is also the Williamsdale Solar Farm.

Given the ambiguity, I think a merge with Williamsdale, New South Wales could be appropriate. I wonder if it would be helpful get some input from other wikipedians with local knowledge such as @Grahamec: to get a consensus on what to do with this article? I don't have any objection to a merger, although it needs to be clear that census data only relates to the NSW part.--Grahame (talk) 08:50, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
