This sketch is primarily based on scattered references in Oral History interviews of Democratic politicians conducted by the California State Archives; the Regional Oral History Office of the Bancroft Library, University of California, Berkeley; and tne Truman Presidential Library, including those of former California Attorney General Robert Kenny, Judge Oliver Carter, San Francisco Assemblyman John O'Connell, and California Democratic Party chairmen John McEnery and Roger Kent.
