Semiprotected Edit request

Location: At the end of paragraph just before content table.
Issue: It is not clear what pronoun "it" refers to. ("wiki" or "WikiWikiWeb")
From source [4] I deduced, it is "wiki". Please, replace "it" by "wiki".
Original Text (confusing, ambiguous): originally described it as "the simplest online database that could possibly work"
Desired Text (clear): originally described wiki as "the simplest online database that could possibly work" --Jan Malec (talk) 17:29, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

Can't you please use something other than Alice in Wonderland as your example of a "mark-up"? How about using Wikipedia's entry instead? Vastly offensive. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.103.6.18 (talk) 00:31, 17 May 2019 (UTC)

Protection level

@Favonian and Jasper Deng: From the protection log, it seems like you have been the most recent editors to change the protection level on this page, back in 2011. Could one of you please unprotect it? 123.201.227.119 (talk) 05:22, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

The article's history of vandalism and the last many "edit requests" made to this talk page make me disinclined to lift the protection. What would you like changed? Favonian (talk) 20:14, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

Ward Cunnigham.

I think Ward's name should be mentioned more frequently as he did invent Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bibbler10 (talkcontribs) 12:59, 23 January 2020 (UTC)

Written as "gaelige"

I didn't know that gaelige meant the Irish language, and was glad to learn it by clicking on the link in a new tab.

But this page is meant to be written in English and it would have annoyed me if I'd had to click to a new wiki page using my phone.

We don't write 'The Anglo-French agreement was published en français' or whatever, do we?

So can we please change that to Irish or the Irish language?

Ganpati23 (talk) 15:50, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

"Gaelige" doesn't appear on this article. Are you referring to the links in the left panel that direct you to the article in different languages? Those should of course be written in the language that you're being directed to. -- Fyrael (talk) 14:50, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

Possible Error

Ward Cunningham wasn't the sole creator of the wiki program, as stated several times in this article. Ooh Saad (talk) 10:10, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

???

Why is there a Wikipedia page on Wikipedia??? 4GrapeWiki (talk) 11:34, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

Well for one thing, if you'd read the article you'd know that this isn't the article on Wikipedia. That would be at Wikipedia. And second, why wouldn't there be? -- Fyrael (talk) 14:58, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
Because Wikipedia is a big thing, my friend. There's also a Wikipedia article about a Wikipedia editor. Enjoyer of World💬 03:40, 22 September 2020 (UTC)

Definition of the word "wikitext"

What actually does "wikitext" refer to?

I think it only means "the kind of markup that MW uses", but it seems in this article it is used to represent "all kinds of markup used by wiki software"

Edit request : Developers

Not one developer is being mentioned, although they are as important as Beethoven, Lennon & McCartney or Lady Gaga in music, and Sanger for the front-end content of Wikipedia. As for the Wikipedia WikiWiki clone that is Clifford Adams, see web.archive.org, wikipedia.com userpage Clifford Adams and for the later software for Wikipedia as of January 25, 2002, that is Magnus Manske, see web.archive.org, meatballwiki.org, MediaWiki. Also Erik Moeller was involved, director of Wikimedia Foundation and initiator of Wikimedia Commons. 2001:16B8:1163:7001:958:BB65:94F1:DEDE (talk) 17:47, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

Credibility

Credibility is an issue in wikis. They are not accepted as a reference in university projects and scientific publications as the articles are not eponymous and are not composed by experts in their field. Anyone can create or edit an article and this is a matter of consideration. 84.205.241.2 (talk) 14:11, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

Under "Potential malware vector", the last sentence reads "A countermeasure is the use of software that prevents users from saving an edit that contains a link to a site listed on a blacklist of malicious sites."

"blacklist" redirects to http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Blacklisting I think it should be changed so it redirects to http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Blacklist_(computing) 80.111.160.73 (talk) 10:56, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

External links: WikiApiary

There's a problem with the WikiApiary link. Clicking leads to 504 Gateway Time-out at https://wikiapiary.com/wiki/Main_Page. After first arriving there deleting wiki/Main_Page resulted in text appearing on its main page but repeating that since then has only led to 504 on the page. Mcljlm (talk) 04:34, 19 March 2022 (UTC)

The wiki you have written about is not affiliated with the Wikimedia Foundation. Many wikis exist outside of the projects hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation. We have no control over, nor affiliation with, those wikis. Please note that whilst other sites may also use MediaWiki software and therefore look similar to our projects, or may have a name that includes 'Wiki-' or '-pedia', or a similar domain name, the only projects which are part of the Wikimedia Foundation are those listed at https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Our_projects. You may wish to use a search engine or other resource to locate the appropriate contact address. Primefac (talk) 12:23, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
If the site is still down after a week, you could try filing a Phabricator task tagged with wikiapiary or contacting one of the members listed there. Dexxor (talk) 14:03, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

Free and open-source software

I have changed the "open-source" to "free and open-source", as nearly all open source wiki software are also free software (free as in freedom), being under permissive or copyleft free software licenses. Comrade-yutyo (talk) 08:19, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
