Merge
[edit]Brown rust is the same as wheat leaf rust, so they should be merged.(Million_Moments 18:55, 17 February 2007 (UTC))
- I agree. I also think that it would be nice to have a 'Plant disease infobox'. I've taken a crack at creating one, see http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Template:Infobox_Plant_disease. As you can see, I don't know what I'm doing, but at least it's a start. The 'Plant disease infobox' would appear with the disease article and the taxobox would appear in the article on the causal agent. Any assistance with the further development of this infobox would be appreciated. Somanypeople 20:07, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

Nomenclature
[edit]In the text, it is quite definitive that recent studies have confirmed that the taxon should be Puccinia persistens subsp. triticina, yet the taxo-box continues to have P. triticina. Should it be changed?—GRM (talk) 07:48, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Grmanners: Ok can you cite your sources? Invasive Spices (talk) 22:16, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
The 'Nomenclatural history' section has this information---GRM (talk) 13:53, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Grmanners: I am not at all familiar with naming, however I think the answer is no. The two sources to support this are Marková Urban 1998 and Abbasi Ershad Hedjaroude 2005. I am not able to find a copy of either. Also I am unable to assess how seriously Acta Universitatis Carolinae Biologica should be taken because I've never heard of it before. It's from the oldest U in Czech and one of the oldest in the world but that doesn't necessarily reflect on the journal or its taxonomist expertise. As for the Iranian Journal of Phytopathology, it seems to barely exist. On the other hand for a quick idea of actual usage the results are 9 versus 11,300:

- On the other hand, two of the Iranian authors also appear in a different paper along with two authors from USDA ARS. (The English translation is at the bottom.) That does lend some strength to the idea that they are well regarded as Puccinia taxonomists by USDA ARS. Nonetheless, I am unable to find a copy of the paper actually in question here, and there is an ocean of mainstream publications using Puccinia triticina. Did Cummins and Caldwell use recondita for WLR and other grass rusts?
[edit]At present the text says:
- The next important article about naming WLR was published by Cummins and Caldwell (1956)[6]. They considered the same broad species concept and also discussed the validity of P. rubigo-vera which was based on an uredinial stage basionym. Finally, they introduced P. recondita as the oldest valid name for WLR and also other grasses.
I take this to mean
- ...and also other grass rusts.
but I don't have the paper. Invasive Spices (talk) 22:50, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
