[edit]Needs more info, and organization ("Storm history" and "Impact" sections). Jdorje 07:02, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
- Will do. This is next on my list. Here's some useful links for me.

I removed this image because I found a Public Domain image, so I put it here. --Hurricanehink (talk) 02:22, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

- You might want to wait. I'm going to give this a full redo when I finish a current project I'm working on. --Hurricanehink (talk) 21:14, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- Category 2 typhoon??? WHAT?! I honestly thought this storm became a super typhoon. Look => [1] RaNdOm26 09:50, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thats the JMA/JTWC nonsense. The JTWC had it as a ST at peak. The peak strength from JMA was a mere 90kts (10 minutes). Hink, that is Cat 3 on SSHS (remember SSHS is a 1minute scale).--Nilfanion (talk) 11:08, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Oh yea, forgot about that. But how should the winds go in the infobox. Should the 1-minute winds be JMA's, as well, with no JTWC in the infobox? Hurricanehink (talk) 12:45, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Wait, better idea. Should the entire article be in 1-minute winds, with the conversion using JMA data? Hurricanehink (talk) 19:34, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Retirement?
[edit]The Current Name list does not have Pongsona in it any more; it was replaced by "Noul". This makes me think the name was retired. Miss Madeline | Talk to Madeline 20:23, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- I guess it was. I'll add it. íslenska hurikein #12 (samtal) 20:48, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Actually, if you go to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center list of TS names, Pongsona is still there.http://www.npmoc.navy.mil/jtwc/menu/tableappb1-2.htmlJlujan69 05:27, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- The JTWC haven't updated their pages in a while. As mentioned below, the WMO committee decides on naming, and the JMA decides when storms should be named (i.e., TS strength). Chacor 06:24, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
JMA area of responsiblity?
[edit]I live in Guam and was here when the typhoon hit. Anyway, what does the writer or editor mean when he says that this typhoon was in JMA's area of responsibility? In Guam and the Northern Marianas, we follow the JTWC (Joint Typhoon Warning Center), not JMA. Does JMA advise or supervise JTWC or do they work together or what?Jlujan69 05:34, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- The JMA oversees the whole region. However, within regions, the authority is always the NMHS, and for Guam the NMHS is the National Weather Service/Joint Typhoon Warning Center. The JMA names the storms, and seldom works with the JTWC. They even use different methods of measuring windspeeds. Chacor 05:36, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Category 4 storm
[edit]I made a correction. With the wind speed of this storm system, it qualified as a Category 4 on the SSHS. Jlujan69 05:46, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- Which isn't correct. JMA called this system a 105 mph Category 2 system with 10 minute sustained winds, which is a Category 3 typhoon using 1 minute winds. Hurricanehink (talk) 12:42, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
I see. Before you edited the information, the 1 minute windpseed listing was 150mph (cat4), which was about right for its intensity when it hit Guam. Perhaps the average intensity was what JMA listed.Jlujan69 21:27, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- The 1 minute speed was the JTWC speed. That is an unofficial speed as recorded by the US military. Different orgs = different numbers. The JMA are official.--Nilfanion (talk) 21:39, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yea, I changed it after thinking about it. Hurricanehink (talk) 22:00, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
I've restored Cat 4 super typhoon and the actual 1-minute readings to the infobox. As far as I am aware, all our NWP post-2000 articles uses JTWC info where it is needed in the infobox. There is no need to do the conversions between JMA and JTWC in the infobox. Perhaps a new NWP infobox may be needed to change "1-minute sustained" under "winds" to "JTWC"? – Chacor 04:38, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
