Wealthsimple

[edit]

Is Wealthsimple a reliable source for verifying claims on Wikipedia? ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:16, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

User:Bearcat curious if you have thoughts here or above? Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:28, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The Wealthsimple cite is just a first-person piece by Tynomi herself, being used only to cite a fact about her educational background rather than as evidence of notability per se, so I'd say this usage is fine. When simply verifying biographical information that doesn't directly impact notability or lack thereof, we're even allowed to sparingly cite the subject's self-published Twitter tweets for that purpose — so the Wealthsimple source would be fine in the same context. If Tynomi didn't have any other sources and somebody were trying to argue that notability under GNG derived from the existence of the Wealthsimple piece, I'd have to say no — but if we're just using it to verify a fact about her educational background, and she already has other better sources to cover off the notability issue, then that's not really a problem.
