first ever separate-but-combined road-and-oval track

[edit]

The article states that this was the "first ever separate-but-combined road-and-oval track." Can someone explain why Monza doesn't qualify? Is it because at Monza the layout was such that a race could use both the oval and the road course during the same race (as occurred several times in the 1950s), whereas at Motegi it sounds like it would be logistically impossible to do this? 1995hoo 15:17, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I question it too. Since it was unsourced, I have removed it. Royalbroil 15:28, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does someone have a Google Earth-compatible overlay for this track?

[edit]

GE's resolution of the area is lousy and nothing turned up on the GE forums (except placemarks). Will (Talk - contribs) 04:30, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BTW: I completed a SVG version of the track layout. I don't know why it doesn't display on the image description page. I also don't know why it is clipped. Does someone have answers?

Well, now it shows correctly here, but not on the image description page. Will (Talk - contribs) 08:36, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mobility Resort Motegi → ? – Moved from longstanding title without any apparent discussion. Suggest either moving back to "Twin Ring Motegi" or using a WP:NDESC like "Motegi Circuit" that would be consistent with other articles like Silverstone Circuit or Monza Circuit. This venue's WP:COMMONNAME in English is generally just "Motegi" (see the BBC, Crash.net, The Race, Autosport, the Independent). Where a longer title is used there's no evidence that the "Mobility Resort" name is prevailing in recent usage over the "Twin Ring" name (see Honda, Motorcycle Sports, Formula Scout, The Drive, MotoGP, Speedsport), and even if the "Mobility Resort" name is sometimes brought up, it doesn't have a quarter-century of usage to establish WP:RECOGNISABILITY. While both "Twin Ring" and "Mobility Resort" are idiosyncratic names, "Twin Ring" is at the very least clearly descriptive of the venue's pair of circuits, while "Mobility Resort" is some sort of wasei-eigo that does not suggest a motor circuit in standard English, and would likely be mistaken for an article about a theme park or mountain bike park by someone scanning through search results. • Support, moving back to Twin Ring Motegi, for the reasons put forth by @HumanBodyPiloter5. I had never heard of Motegi being referred to as Mobility Resort Motegi before; to me this sounds like a resort designed especially for those with disabilities. ~~

  • Support reverting the undiscussed move (i.e. move back to Twin Ring Motegi). This is a case of an page using the official name rather than the common name and I can see no justification for this. (I am not watching this page, so please ping me if you want my attention.) SSSB (talk) 15:36, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
