[edit]wikipedia state's that anyone and everyone can change tis information so , when writing for a home-work assignment YOU DO NOT COPY AND PASTE THIS AS YOUR HOME-WORK! that is lazy and unapropriate so dont do it! from your dearest teacher —Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.167.162.38 (talk) 20:23, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
I dunno how useful this info is since I don't know how to source it, but a more accurate translation, rather than "compassion", is "mercy". In Irish Catholic mass services, the translation for "Lord, have mercy" is "A Thiarna, déan trócaire". --51.37.38.153 (talk) 19:37, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
Trócaire Logo Update
[edit]![]() | This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. |
- Could somebody update the logo on the Trócaire page so that it reflects the one actually in use?:
- The Trócaire logo currently in use on the Wikipedia page is out of date and has not been used by the organisation for a few years.:
- The current Trócaire logo can be found on the official webiste here https://www.trocaire.org/wp-content/themes/FoundationPressN/src/assets/images/new_logo_b.png:

Ethos section

- What I think should be changed (include citations):
Can the "Ethos" section of the Trócaire page be updated reflect the organisation's way of working more clearly, for example:
Trócaire’s stated strategy is to:
work with local partners in the world’s most at-risk communities and with people in Ireland to tackle the underlying causes of poverty and injustice and respond to the crises they create.
It does so by focusing on five specific goal areas: • Defending Human Rights and Promoting Access to Justice • Climate and Environmental Justice • Supporting Women’s & Girl’s Protection, Voice & Influence • Saving Lives & Protecting Human Dignity • Mobilising the Public to Achieve Global Justice[1]
Trócaire reported supporting more than 2.2 million people across these goals in 2023/2024. [2] Trócaire’s ethos is guided by its five values of solidarity, accountability, perseverance, participation, and courage and is also grounded in the values of Catholic Social Teaching.[3]
- Why it should be changed:
The current section lacks citations and does not really state the "ethos" of the organisation i.e. the goals and Catholic Social Teaching. Also, stating it's five specific goals would make it's approach very clear to readers.

- Hi. Thanks for your note. RE:
- "
The current [Ethos] section lacks citations and does not really state the "ethos" of the organisation
". Indeed. It deals entirely with "programmes". I have updated the section heading to reflect. In addition to removing/summarising some of the uncited text, I've also (since) added a few refs. Granted all primary. But perhaps better than none. - "
Can the "Ethos" section [..] be updated reflect [..] Trócaire's stated strategy
". I have not done this. Not least as what is proposed would be akin to having a "mission statement" section in the article. Which, per the 'avoid mission statements' explanatory essay, isn't really in keeping with the WP:NOTADVOCACY guideline.
- "
- Happy to discuss other/smaller improvements. But the main change proposed (which would result in a dedicated "ethos" section) is not something that I'd personally be happy to make myself. Guliolopez (talk) 13:59, 31 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi. Thanks for your note. RE:
- Hi Guliolopez,
- I understand your points re: ethos and avoiding mission statements. Could the Programmes section be re-written somewhat to be more clear and up to date on Trócaire’s areas and ways of working, as Trócaire’s 5 goals are actually its 5 programme areas, not just aspirations. The Annual Report pages 17 to 19 breaks down how much money is spent on each goal/programme area and how many people are supported.
- Similarly, Trocaire’s primary way of working is through partnership and localisation, the annual report states that 62% of it’s spend goes directly to partners. So, “working with local partners” isn’t just a mission statement in this case.
- For example:
- In 2023, Trócaire programmes supported 2.2 million people in Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. (p. 8)
- Trócaire programmes work primarily through localisation and partnership with 62% of the organisation’s overall annual spend supporting 218 local partner organisations. (p. 20)
- Trócaire programmes work across five areas aligned to its 5 organisational goals – defending human rights and promoting access to justice, achieving climate and environmental justice, ensuring women and girl’s protection, voice and influence, saving lives and protecting human dignity and mobilising the public. (p. 17)

Trócaire Introductory Paragraph
[edit]![]() | The user below has a request that a significant addition or re-write be made to this article for which that user has an actual or apparent conflict of interest. - What I think should be changed (include citations):
I suggest updating the introductory section on Trócaire to similar to this:
Trócaire (Irish pronunciation: [ˈt̪ˠɾˠoːkəɾʲə], meaning "compassion")[2] is an International Non-Governmental Organisation (INGO).[1]
Trócaire delivers development and humanitarian programmes in 14 countries around the world with an emphasis on localisation and partnership.[2] [3] Its programme areas include human rights, climate change, gender equality, humanitarian support and raising public awareness.[4]
It was founded by the Irish Catholic Bishops in 1973 and is a member of the global Caritas Internationalis confederation. [5] In 2023 Trócaire marked its 50th Anniversary, when its annual Trócaire Box appeal was described as “one of the most identifiable charity collections in Ireland”. [6]
- Why it should be changed:
I'm suggesting the edits to clearly state the type of organisation it is e.g. an INGO, to provide a bit more info at first glance on how the organisation operates and what it does. Also, to bring it up to date with mention of the 50th anniversary but this might sit better in another section.

- Hi Penafiel2025. I have:
- updated the lead to add the text about the organisation being an INGO. As that is what the (granted primary) sources state. And the org is, fundamentally, an NGO/charity.
- added a short note (to reflect the body and source) on the org's activities. As, otherwise, all we say is that "it's an NGO" - without saying what the NGO does. Or where.
- added a note on the "identifiable" nature of the "Trocaire box" campaign to the body. But not to the lead.
- not removed the text in the lead about the org having its foundation as an overseas development agency of the Catholic Church in Ireland. As that is what the (also granted primary) sources state as its foundational basis. And I see no reason to remove it.
- not added the text about the number of programs/countries, the stuff about "emphasis on localisation and partnership", or the selective mention of 50th anniversary. As the proposed text reads as more than a little promotional in tone. And based entirely on primary/promotional sources. (Just because the subject isn't the East India Company or Exxon or Purdue or LexCorp doesn't mean that WP:NOTPROMO applies any the less...)
