Early new media art scholar
[edit]The discussion for the wikipedia sentence that reads, "Ryan is one of the only people working within the field of early-new media art history". I am confused why this would be a "dubious" claim, New Media Art has a relatively short history starting in approx. the 1960s. It had been derived from the quote: "Dr. Tina Rivers Ryan is one of the few art historians working to reconstruct the early history of new media art."[1] Please feel free to discuss here and provide any related citations. - Pretty simple, it's utter nonsense that she's "one of the only people". There are entire symposia dedicated to the field, with hundreds of participants and many museums have curators who specialize in time based arts. Vexations (talk) 21:38, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
- Currently I don't even see an article for time-based media art here, let alone hundreds of participants, curators and scholars of time-based media art. But it is related to New media art, Conservation and restoration of time-based media art. One specific difference is the focus on early work. PigeonChickenFish (talk) 21:46, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
- Then we should write the article Time-based art. FWI, John Hanhardt has published on early new media art (especially Nam June Paik) and his work has been cited extensively. Another curator of time-based arts is Karen Archey. Museums like the Tate have dedicated curatorial staff. I would love it if there was sufficient material in independent, reliable sources to sustain an article on TRR. A few years from now, that may well be the case.
