Article needs work
[edit]This article needs work. I have doubts about the notability also. The article at minimum needs to be toned down so that it is less of a link farm for his various projects (Island 6, Liu Dao collective). There's a lot of WP:Promotion going on here, with too many external links, which make it look like an ad rather than an encyclopedia article.New Media Theorist (talk) 17:42, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- Notability is fine. I see no problem with that. As for external links, no problems either. Sources could always be improved, as formatting, but otherwise, I see no need to tag the article. Coldcreation (talk) 19:42, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
Coldcreation, do you not seem some problem with an article that has 50+ external inline links that are not formatted as references? I am thinking of the exhibition tables below the text. New Media Theorist (talk) 21:10, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- Yes indeed, you are correct. I was referring to the External links section. Those links you mention should be formatted as references. Coldcreation (talk) 06:12, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- I've already modified the Selected exhibitions (as artist) section. Coldcreation (talk) 06:52, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- That was lot of work! Nicely done.New Media Theorist (talk) 15:11, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- More. Coldcreation (talk) 17:33, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- Coldcreation, it's much better in terms of inline links, but it now has 100 (yes one hundred) self-published references. I'm a new editor, but it seems to me that is a lot of self-published references. Could you tell me your thoughts on that? I say self-published as Chevariat seems to control the Island6 sites as well as his own.I'm wondering how to make this less of a "link farm" to the article subject's own sites.New Media Theorist (talk) 22:32, 11 September 2015 (UTC)

- I'm going to nominate this for AfD so there can be a wider discussion of his notability. The self-published sources (m5project, island6.org etc) are registered by the article subject, according to whois searches. I don't think the notability is there, or if it is, it is obscured by the hundred links to sites that the article subject controls. New Media Theorist (talk) 22:49, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- The first step was to convert external links to sources. The second will be to remove duplicate (triplicate, and so on) sources. There really is no need for all of those, as you correctly note. They are easy enough to remove. As for notability: I can attest first hand to the notability of the artist and curator (as well as island6), as do several sources not linked to the artist. If you do launch an AfD please link it here (EDIT: I see you already posted it). I will gladly participate in the discussion. In the mean time, I will begin the reduction of source-links to articles the subject controls. (After which an AfD will likely no longer be needed). Coldcreation (talk) 06:36, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- Done. Coldcreation (talk) 06:57, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- When you say "first hand", does that mean you know the article subject? I see Coldcreation a lot on his CV.New Media Theorist (talk) 17:11, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- You've got mail. Coldcreation (talk) 06:38, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
- I didn't receive any email. In any case i did not realize I could even receive email from users! that function is now turned off. Back to the question: by first hand, did you mean to say you know the article subject? If you have a WP:COI, just disclose it, it's not such a big deal. I saw your user page, you are a significant and valuable contributor to the Wikipedia project.New Media Theorist (talk) 10:20, 13 September 2015 (UTC)

If you turn on the email function I will resend the email (your email stays confidential). There is no WP:COI. Coldcreation (talk) 11:12, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
- No to email... my mom said to never talk in private with strangers. If you know the article subject, you should say as much. "Coldcreation" appears numerous times in the article, and on Charvariat's CV he had four shows at "ColdCreation gallery" in Spain. If you do not know the article subject, no worries.New Media Theorist (talk) 17:35, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
- I curated shows, years ago, within which the artist exhibited, as mentioned in the article. There is no WP:COI as I no longer organize exhibitions, and he now has his own gallery. Coldcreation (talk) 18:42, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
- Got it! You had a business relationship with the article subject, have met him, but it's not WP:COI. New Media Theorist (talk) 20:10, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
