The following companies seem to have been part of the system in Manhattan:

--NE2 04:40, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

These were the Manhattan line names in later days:

  • 10 10th Avenue (appears to have run from the west end of 42nd Street north on 10th Avenue, Amsterdam Avenue, and Broadway - to end where? ran at least to LaSalle Street, so probably ended at the west end of 125th Street)
  • B Broadway (used 42nd Street - [1])
  • K Broadway, Amsterdam Avenue and 125th Street
  • T 3rd and Amsterdam Avenues (longest line, City Hall to Fort George)
  • X 42nd Street Crosstown
  • X 59th Street Crosstown
  • X 125th Street Crosstown

--NE2 13:31, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[2] has some information on 125th Street. --NE2 15:05, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There was also a Broadway and 145th Street Line: [3] Apparently this was one of the last three lines to be abandoned, along with Broadway-Kingsbridge and 125th Street Crosstown. --NE2 15:11, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a map that should help: [4] --NE2 16:07, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And some other lines, from [5]:

--NE2 16:17, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Dry Dock, East Broadway and Battery Railroad operated four lines in 1928: the Avenue B Line, Grand Street Line, Grand Street and Brooklyn Line, and Post Office and Brooklyn Line. [6] --NE2 17:11, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1897 list of lines

[edit]

This is from a Brooklyn Daily Eagle article on April 2, 1897 page 3. Line names were added by me. --NE2 10:41, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Owned
[presumably these were leased, probably all from the Forty-second Street, Manhattanville and St. Nicholas Avenue Railway]
  • Forty-second street, North river, to East river 1.97 42nd Street Crosstown Line
  • Fifty-ninth street via Tenth avenue to Manhattan street 3.29 apparently the Tenth Avenue Line continued along Amsterdam Avenue all the way to 125th Street - was this the four tracks on Amsterdam Avenue referred to in other articles?
  • Forty-second street via Seventh avenue to Boulevard, etc 4.02 Broadway Line minus the trackage between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues?
  • North river, Manhattan street, St. Nicholas avenue, One Hundred and Tenth street, to East river 2.76 110th Street Crosstown Line
  • Branches .41
  • Second track 12.45

Broadway cars began turning east on 42nd Street on either February 10 or February 17, 1908: [7] ("last Monday" from Wednesday, February 19) --NE2 04:28, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Family tree"

[edit]

This 1920 book has some information.

I kind of feel like there should be a template for all these lines and companies. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 13:09, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

TATS

[edit]

In its later years, the company name was Third Avenue Transit System. How should this be worked into the article? n2xjk (talk) 20:30, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
