is it an estuary or an indentation?

[edit]

in the opening paragraph the wash is called and estruary but later on it is called and indentation which one is it?

'An indentation' is not really part of a geographer's technical vocabulary, though there is nothing to stop his using it in its generally known sense. The Wash is however, technically an estuary, though not a typical one. It is not the tidal part of one great river but of several relatively small ones. They are as it were, the tributaries of a larger river, the valley of which is now drowned by the sea. (RJP 10:29, 22 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Related: Something on the etymology of the Wash's name would be interesting. I know that the Ouse was called Wusa in old English, so Wash may come from Wusa or it may come form a Germanic word for water.Vince Calegon 11:20, 23 November 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vince Calegon (talkcontribs)

Silver Pit

[edit]

Reference is made in the Wash River section to Silver Pit but it is not clear how exactly this relates to the Wash. Further explanation (with refs) is required. Can someone, anyone - the original contributor perhaps - supply that? cheers Geopersona (talk) 18:20, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Global warming / rising sea levels

[edit]

To what extent is The Wash considered to be at risk from global warming/rising sea levels? I came to this article to read about this but found nothing. I mean, in London, it has been pointed out that the Thames Barrier has been used far more than originally projected, and there is going to have to be a further barrier erected at some point in the future because sea levels are rising faster than expected. Surely this will affect The Wash as well? Is it projected to become just another bay? Thanks in advance to anybody who knows or who can point to any articles on this.Betathetapi545 (talk) 05:33, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There is a caption for the aerial photo, but it does not show in the article as displayed. Presumably there is a formatting error. Perhaps someone understands the problem and can correct it. Thanks. --Frans Fowler (talk) 10:02, 13 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
