Debate
[edit]There has been a debate going on about this film ever since it's release: Is this the worst musical ever made?
The only good thing I gave it was the opening title song -- it was good.

- I took it to be more of a parody of musicals. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.72.21.221 (talk) 18:34, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
- Its hardly a parody, its a really bad rehash of The Pirates of Penzance but removing some songs, adding others, and changing the story/characters. TR 11:40, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think Wikipedia is really the place to open up a "debate", but I for one thought it was an excellent summer movie (for a "tween"). Adults only see the cheese-factor, but if you watch closely, you'll see it's a film that's full of very clever visual and verbal jokes. It's good for a good laugh. I would never call it the "worst musical". It's a parody, for pete's sake! If the makers of "Scary Movie" made one that was a musical, would it also be instantly considered one of the "worst musicals"? The Pirate Movie had some VERY good songs ("Pumpin' & Blowin'" NOT being one of them) and should be recognized as such. It was just a fun summer movie, and I loved it growing up. --Schmendrick (talk) 18:36, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- There is an interesting (though anecdotal) fact which my personal experience confirms: those who watch this film as children generally enjoy it when they see it again as adults; those who first watch it as adults generally think it dire and avoid it thereafter. I would say that if you haven't seen it by the time you are 16, don't bother. Schmendrick is right when he says that it's a film that's full of very clever visual and verbal jokes but that is part of the pantomimic quality which appeals to youngsters far more than to oldsters. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder! -- 68.147.195.106 (talk) 06:17, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Happy Ending or Happy Endings?
[edit]The list of songs includes "Happy Ending" (in two versions, cast and instrumental).
The list of Golden Raspberry nominations includes "Happy Endings" for worst song.
Which is correct? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.161.48.239 (talk) 06:31, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Luke Strotz
[edit]What can be done about a user that keeps adding references to a Luke Strotz and Captain Coleslaw in several pages of obscure movies in wikipedia? Many of the time it's hard to tell from a real reference:

Soundtrack Album listing
[edit]I note that the "soundtrack album" listing is divided into four parts (A, B, C and D) and is not particularly chronological. Was this list derived from an 8-track tape cassette? Of course, that's an extinct format that quartered the playlist primarily to get the total lengths to fit four parallel tracks, with other considerations secondary. Somehow, that would be appropriate for this film. WHPratt (talk) 13:33, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- The track listing is derived from the 2-LP vinyl release, which was arranged in the same order as the cassette version (that was split onto two sides instead of four). I don't believe there was an 8-track (the format was on its last legs by that point), but I might be wrong. The songs were put into their proper order on some of the bootleg CDs. The album has never official been re-released in any format. 65.255.86.46 (talk) 00:01, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks. Two LPs! That's interesting. WHPratt (talk) 01:38, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- I should note that at the time I asked the question, the "soundtrack album" item presented the tracks without any explanation. Somewhere along the way, the section was expanded. WHPratt (talk) 22:29, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
Trivia
[edit]The "Trivia" section is absolutely horrendous! It's pretty much just a pile of horribly-written, haphazardly-listed details about the scenes filmed in Werribee Park Mansion, with a couple of bloopers inserted in the list too. I gave up after trying to fix a few lines. This should probably just be split up into two sections: a paragraph or two on Werribee Park Mansion, and known bloopers. - WillieBlues (talk) 22:51, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
I went ahead and moved the relevant Werribee Park Mansion info to the "locations" section, and deleted the stuff that looked redundant or irrelevant to the movie. I'm wondering if the illiterate user who inserted all of this is some Werribee Park Mansion employee. - WillieBlues (talk) 23:11, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for integrating the useful parts out of the trivia section and removing all the useless detail. The remaining two items are just not worth having in an article so I've axed them too. Cheers! -- Whpq (talk) 01:12, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Australian Music Chart
[edit]Somebody left a reference to the album reaching #39 on the Australian charts, but it seems to be from a book that's not online. I can't find any information for how the three singles fared in Australia. If somebody else can dig that info up, it'd be appreciated. 65.255.86.46 (talk) 23:49, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
