Copyvio
[edit]Are info available in press pack not subject to copyvio? The only info in the press pack regarding copyright is this:
- ALL PHOTOS PUBLISHED OR USED IN ANY MEDIA FOR WHATEVER PURPOSE MUST BE CREDITED TO LURGEE.
The band member info and disco are all cut and paste. -- Dodo bird 18:59, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- I'm going to go with "no", press release material is republishable under fair use. However, I will seek and document explicit permission to use the material, (I am in communication with band members) or reword. The info is encyclopedic and enhances the article. The band is presumably not notable enough to warrant separate articles for each band member or for the albums, so keeping it all together seems goodness. Note: the photos used have been so credited. ++Lar: t/c 19:59, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- I reinserted the info I removed. -- Dodo bird 20:10, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- Cool, thanks. But it looks a lot better now, since you broke the instruments played out as a separate line. Nice work! ++Lar: t/c 20:20, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

why does this article exist?
[edit]It looks like a very obscure band with two albums. I don't see why the article exists at all, much less getting linked from the front page. Phr 00:08, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
- Fair question. I did think about it before I created the article... but I think they're easily notable. See WP:MUSIC. The applicable sections are reproduced for your convenience:
- Has gone on an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one large or medium-sized country, reported in notable and verifiable sources. ... these guys have toured in over half a dozen Asian countries that easily fit "medium-sized" or larger, and they routinely open or are featured performers at music festivals in their home country of Singapore.
- Has been featured in multiple non-trivial published works in verifiable media. ... they're in Straits Times and other Singaporean media, and there are links to MTV Asia (where their then upcoming album was written up) in the article.
- Has won or placed in a major music competition. ... they've won competitions in Singapore multiple times. Cited on the page. Singapore is a "medium sized country" (see the footnote in WP:MUSIC that discusses country sizes)
- As for why they're on DYK? DYK is about neat facts. Know any other bands that have done diary style presentation, including paperclipped faux "pictures" as album packaging? That was the focus of the DYK, not whether they've outsold the Rolling Stones... see also Music_of_Singapore#Pop_music Hope that helps. Happy editing and thanks for asking! ++Lar: t/c 00:58, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
- What's wrong with obscure bands?! I love reading about obscure but notable bands - not bedroom DJs, one demo on a CDR merchants, or the latest high school rockers, but bands who are notable in some place or in some genre that I've never heard of.
- This band meets WP:MUSIC. It's not vanity or spam, Lar is just a fan who saw the band on his travels and liked them. I guess, by the way, that you're not from Singapore. If you don't like it, nominate it for deletion - and you'd better nominate China Dolls (one of the best known pop groups in Thailand) at the same time. --kingboyk 02:21, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:TheObservatoryAFarCryFromHereCover.jpg
[edit]Image:TheObservatoryAFarCryFromHereCover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Copyright
[edit]On my copy of "Time of Rebirth" it states that the audio recording rights belong to the band. Universal is shown as a distributor only. Is that the same for their other albums?--Dodo bird (talk) 10:46, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Elephant 6
[edit]Currently, there is a link to this article from the Elephant 6 Template, with The Observatory listed under "projects after E6 disbandment". To me there appears to be no link to the Elephant 6 Collective. I may be wrong, if so the E6 template should be added to this article. Otherwise The Observatory should be removed from the template. The template is located here --JuPitEer 17:55, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
