Read like an advertisement
[edit]I do not see why this tag was placed. All info is factural and with references. I do not se any weasel words. Critical reception includes CANBY who was not that happy with film. As such, I have removed tag. Luigibob 04:21, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
- "sassy", "sultry", "winks"? The whole thing reads like an advert. Replacing tag. Chris 04:27, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
- The whole thing does not. I now agree some adjectives should not have been used, and I've deleted most if not all of them. Althought I think NPOV can go too far as far as descriptions go in plot summaries. I mean the film is a neo-noir and sexual look and attitude is part of the style and should be described that way. To delete some adjectives is to neuter a plot summary. Some of the descptions in the music section I admit seem to have been added by a music/New Orleana enthusiast and have been deleted. Luigibob 05:34, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, "winks"? That's excactly what the protagonist does, he winks at the waiter/owner many times in order to get him to give him the check. Luigibob 05:39, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
This entire thing reads like a novel or a personal blogged critique, all you have to do is go to a desciption on any other movie out there listed on wikipedia and you'll see what you did wrong. Quotes? Are you kidding me? This isnt a 3rd grade essay. ITS A DESCRIPTION. You need to distance yourself from whatever revelation you derived from every one of these scenes and find a middleground. I'll be back to do it for you if you just cant see it yourself how to make it look like it wasnt written by someone with a lift top desk. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.227.251.234 (talk) 00:36, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
And not to mention. You over there bickering about such moot detail when the fact the winking on its own shouldve never even been mentioned in the description. Just because a scene holds some keystone factors to the plot does not mean those reading need a play by play of how YOU or someone watching the film would come to a REALIZATION of whats going on. They dont need it spoon fed to them, or spoiled for that matter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.227.251.234 (talk) 00:50, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
Cultural Innaccuracies
[edit]New Orleans is NOT Cajun. New Orleans is not how the film projects it. Dennis Quaid's mult-cultural dialect is such a travesty to the dialects spoken in New Orleans. Cajun Country is near Lafayette and around Thibodeaux. New Orleans is primarily African, French, Spanish, and Irish. It is more Creole than Cajun. 76.72.15.91 (talk) 17:29, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
Quaid's character is actually supposed to be Cajun, and his accent is abominable. The assertion that it was praised should probably be sourced, because I can't imagine anyone praising it who's ever heard a Cajun speak. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.231.145.110 (talk) 04:27, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
