Talk:Tetrads in general relativity

Hi, MPatel,

I propose a name change for the following reasons:

  • "tetrad" is often used to refer to NP tetrad (two real null vectors and one pair of complex conjugate vectors),
  • "frame" and "coframe" are dual pairs just like "vector" and "covector", which reduces the burden upon the memory of the student,
  • the term "frame field" helps students remember that these are vector fields.

I changed the link from the "Exact solutions" article to a new article I started called "frame fields in general relativity", and plan a companion article on "coframe fields in general relativity". Both articles will point out that these are very special cases of more general concepts with are valid for any psuedo-Riemannian manifold, and I plan to link them with future articles on congruences and kinematical quantities like the expansion tensor, shear tensor, and vorticity vector.---CH (talk) 19:39, 29 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CH. I've just come from the frame fields in general relativity article. Now that that article is well and truly on it's way, I suppose this article can be deleted. --Mpatel 10:32, 30 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
