Fair use rationale for Image:Stephenlrichards.jpg

[edit]

Image:Stephenlrichards.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Stephen L RichardsStephen L. Richards — The page at its current location is incorrect, as it is missing a period after the middle initial, and I cannot move it myself to Stephen L. Richards. However, instead of listing this as an "uncontroversial" request at WP:RM, I am starting a discussion to gain consensus on whether it should be moved to Stephen L. Richards per WP:NCP or Stephen Richards (Mormon) per WP:Naming conventions (Latter Day Saints). Thoughts? —KuyaBriBriTalk 14:27, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is this incorrect? The initial doesn't stand for anything, and no period is quite common for situations like that.
You also misread the LDS convention. It distinguishes between use of (LDS) and (Mormon) if parenthetical disambiguation is necessary. But it doesn't say to add the parentheses if we don't need them. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 02:23, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. He had no middle name other than "L", so when he wrote his name he put no period after it. This usage can be seen in one of the articles listed in the article. He didn't opt for the Harry S. Truman approach of treating it as an initial. In fact, for people on a first-name basis with him, he was often "Stephen L". That said, you can find instances of sources using the period. I also oppose moving to Stephen Richards (Mormon)—he was known as "Stephen L Richards" almost uniformly in the area of his notability. On the LDS Church's own website (lds.org), "Stephen Richards" gets one hit and "Stephen L Richards" gets 136. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:50, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per above assertions that the "L" stood for nothing, he didn't use a period after it, and that users looking for this person would be most likely to identify him as "Stephen L Richards." Assuming that's all true, the article should stay at this title. Propaniac (talk) 18:16, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
