If you tried to overthrow the US government, you would be either imprisoned lifelong or lose your life. Isn't it interesting that of these eight, 7 are living enjoyable lives after trying to "overthrow the government".

what is "enjoyable"? What is the fate of the GKChP members? Why did you classified them as Gang of Eight? Were they trialed? If not, they are innocent, aren't they not? Not caught - not guilty, right? Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 18:11, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Rename in State Committee on the State of Emergency . Violation. The distortion of facts, neutrality. No need to confuse Constitution USSR and United States. In the Soviet Union under the Constitution, article 6 ruled by one party. The KGB has authority to arrest any Government leader and the President USSR CPI-RUS (talk) 17:18, 14 Mai 2012 (UTC)

I suspect most people are not that interested. I can't believe "Gang of Eight" is in general usage. And frankly I had never seen "State Committee on the State of Emergency" either, although I suppose that is what the plotters called themselves. User:Fred BauderTalk13:31, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Why? Pages get moved all the time; there hasn't been any indication that this particular proposed move is in any way controversial. The term "Gang of Eight" hasn't appeared in the article for nearly a year. The proposed move looks like simple housekeeping to me. —Psychonaut (talk) 13:44, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Whereas
the text "Gang of Eight" has not appeared in the article for over a year, with no opposition to its removal having been heard;
No problem. Keep in mind, however, although the verdict of history has been long rendered, that this an extremely controversial subject. No move of this, or other articles about the attempted coup, is a routine matter that can be done without discussion and agreement. No more than you could move George W. Bush to Dubya. From where and who took the term "Gang of Eight" ? WP:Neutrality ??? CPI-RUS (talk) 20:17, 31 Mai 2012 (UTC)
I support the move to State Emergency Committee because this is what is in the sources (see e.g. NYT) and is neutral. For the record, in 1991 I was on the streets of Moscow opposing these guys, so this ius not an expression of my political stance.--Ymblanter (talk) 17:51, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I'm sorry—I didn't see that your title was different from the one CPI-RUS proposed. I should have read more carefully! I think everyone has agreed that "Gang of Eight" is not the correct title for this article, so I won't move it back. I'll would like to rename it again to State Emergency Committee, since I acknowledge your source and see that several others use the same name, and because it seems to solve the POV issue which was one of the objections to "Gang of Eight". However, Wikipedia won't let me move it over the existing redirect. I do note that "State Committee on the State of Emergency" also has a lot of sources, though the term is perhaps not as widely used on the web. If anyone thinks it should be State Committee on the State of Emergency instead, we can continue the discussion here, and then get an administrator to move the page if necessary. In any event, all three titles currently continue to point to this article. —Psychonaut (talk) 18:23, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Let us wait a bit, and then if there is a consensus for moving, we can always ask an admin or put a speedy template.--Ymblanter (talk) 18:38, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
