Act of sportsmanship
[edit]Both TODAY and ST are very clear in writing the narrative from a third party's perspective.
Liew suddenly found himself leading the 12-strong field after his rivals took the wrong path. But instead of taking advantage of his lead, which was about 50m, the Singaporean decided to wait for them.
But instead of capitalising on his advantage, he slowed down to give his rivals time to catch up. He eventually finished eighth while Soh won the race.
Neither source claims that the story originated from Liew himself, or wrote that "Liew claimed/said/told us". Soh's opinion is irrelevant to the case. Seloloving (talk) 19:50, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- It’s not a matter of Soh’s opinion or not. This is the fact: the first article to report this contained no supporting evidence of the “act of sportsmanship” apart from Ashley’s own quotes: https://www.todayonline.com/sports/liew-shows-what-real-class
- The reporter was not there and there was no video to rely on. He was only repeating what Ashley told him in third person. As a wiki editor, you have to exercise greater discretion in your sources, otherwise all you might be doing is helping to propagate fake or inaccurate news. 171.7.75.230 (talk) 19:21, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
