Source of name?
[edit]Today I removed an unreferenced statement, which somebody had inserted under the References heading. They claimed, "Sissiboo does come from the Mi'kmaq language. It comes from the 2 words Sis't Sipu'l. sipu is river, sipu'l is rivers, sis't is 3. It means 3 rivers". It's possible that it's correct, but without a reference we can't be sure. If somebody can find a reference to support this info, please apply it accordingly. Regards, |PKT(alk) 13:40, 9 April 2022 (UTC)
- No reference but an alternative story for how the river got its name, according to local residents. And the story goes like this: Back in the early history of the America's an early english trader hired a local french fur trapper to help guide him through the area. When they arrived in the area where Weymouth is now, the trader asked the trapper what the name of the river was. The trader, not too proficient in speaking the English language, thought the trader was commenting on how the river was so beautiful and responded: "Si, C'est beau". Hence, the name: Sissiboo. 74.103.132.224 (talk) 14:43, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
