"Largest" company status"

[edit]

There appears to be some disagreement between this article and the one for Walmart over which is the largest company in the world by revenue. Neither claim has an obvious source cited and I don't trust myself to fix this on my own. Wanted to bring it to someone's attention. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shinsukato (talkcontribs) 15:39, 5 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

POV

[edit]

I have re-ordered the article to match the format of other energy company articles, such as that of Royal Dutch Shell, PetroChina, ExxonMobil, and British Petroleum--corporate history first, an economic profile, then a discussion of recent events.

Upon researching the Gabon article using a more recent source, AfricaFiles, I have found that Sinopec has rectified its earlier activities in Loango, and in order to properly note that Sinopec has, in fact, expanded its activities in Gabon and improved its relationship with local environmental organizations and the government, I have edited the 'Sinopec in Africa' section..129.173.136.98 14:10, 12 Jan 2011 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.115.168.245 (talk)

I have returned deleted pars and references to the 'Sinopec in Africa' section, removed by user stephenzhu, and retitled the section to reflect its current content which is now wider than 'criticism of Sinopec' as it covers the recent kidnapping of Sinopec employees.

Feel free to remove my revisions, or change them in any way but I ask that you justify any similar wholesale editing so that I won't come back and revert the changes. All reasonable edits get my support.Xue hanyu 14:10, 4 May 2007 (UTC)xue_hanyu[reply]

[edit]

I stumbled across this page when trying to figure out the ownership structure of one of this company's subsidiaries. I don't believe that it maintains a neutral point of view in its history section, as the section mainly discusses what seems to be a single editor's concerns with the the environmental track record of the company. As I am no expert on this company or its organizational history, I will leave it to those better informed to better flesh out the history section. However, I do believe that the information regarding the company's actions in Gabon should at least be moved to the section regarding the company's environmental track record. Merge with China Petrochemical Corporation

[edit]

This page China_Petrochemical_Corporation refers to the same organization. Federicotg (talk) 18:14, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Further, I propose a merge in accordance with WP:MERGEPROP. China_Petrochemical_Corporation can easily be exmplained in this article without WP:UNDUE or article size issues. Furthermore, there is little encyclopedic value in China_Petrochemical_Corporation as a standalone.

If the merge goes through sources like this can be used to fill in details prior to the IPO.[1]Czarking0 (talk) 03:42, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Add History About Ma Yongsheng becoming chairman

[edit]

Basically a TODO. This should probably include the reshuffling of Zhang Dong and Dai Houliang Czarking0 (talk) 23:29, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Green Jet Fuel

[edit]

Removed this from the led as it is undue weight but it may be worth mentioning elsewhere. [2] Czarking0 (talk) 23:35, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Similar thoughts on this. [3] A third party source should be used and a more comprehensive and up to date picture of their alternative fuel.

Another source I found. Not originally mentioned.[4]

History Subsections

[edit]

The division of the history into Africa and the rest of the world is awkward. It clearly has been a struggle point for editors as there are multiple mentions of African events in the rest of the world section. Due the the global nature of oil, the African events often have notable results outside of Africa. For example the Swiss bribery investigations and subsequent lay-offs over bribes in Nigeria. Therefore, I suggest using a single history section or potentially dividing the history into subsidiaries rather than geographic subsections. Czarking0 (talk) 16:50, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sri Lanka Oil Refinery

[edit]

The article talks about plans to build oil refining in Sri Lanka. The info needs to be updated.[5] Czarking0 (talk) 01:43, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Easy Joy

[edit]

Sinopec has a non gas related arm. I have not convinced myself if it is notable enough to discuss in the article. Here are some sources if so.[6][7]Czarking0 (talk) 19:53, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

History Gap

[edit]

As the article currently stands there is effectively no history from 2014-2019 so additional sources for that time period would be appreciated. Czarking0 (talk) 22:01, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Aramco

[edit]

There are a couple brief mentions of cooperation with Aramco. This should be expanded. Czarking0 (talk) 12:00, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
