[edit]I had purchased a copy of the DVD John and Abigail Adams. I was taken by the portrail of John Adams. He took years of American History, and made it come alive. It is a thrill to adore such a couple as John and Abigail, and see them lifted out of the pages and onto the screen. My name is Cathryn

Music historian
[edit]Apart from presenting a series about music history, there is nothing in this article to suggest why he is called a musical historian - is it justified? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.154.20.13 (talk) 17:14, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
- I've been looking into this, and I can't see any justification for it. He's labelled "actor and music historian" all over the web, but perhaps just mirroring Wikipedia: nobody seems to substantiate it. The only relevant publication I can find is that he provided a foreword to Nicholas Kenyon's The Faber Pocket Guide to Bach (2011), which really isn't heavyweight enough to justify the label "historian". The blurb accompanying his award of an honorary doctorate by the Open University in 2010 focuses entirely on his acting, not any scholarly activity – and one would expect it to be mentioned there if anywhere. Likewise the blurb accompanying his appointment as Cameron Mackintosh Visiting Professor at Oxford in 2015. On the other hand, in 2017 he was apparently elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries (also mentioned in passing in a recent online newsletter here, so seemingly not a namesake).
