New proposal for Tibetan naming conventions

[edit]

I recently proposed a new set of Tibetan naming conventions which could end up affecting the title of this article. Please see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Tibetan) and Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Tibetan)#New naming convention proposal. Your comments and feedback are requested.—Nat Krause(Talk!·What have I done?) 23:37, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

map error

[edit]

Fhah4 has stated here that the map I made highlighting Shigatse Prefecture is incorrect and/or out of date. He/she seems to be right, but I wanted to ensure that the edit to the map was being made with as much inclusion as possible. Please leave a note if you support or oppose the edit to the map. Thanks! --Keithonearth (talk) 06:22, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why the inclusion of Nepalese

[edit]

Why the inclusion of Nepalese name in the article? Nepalese language has no official status in the area. And the region has no recorded Nepalese minority population. And Nepal has no historical claim over the city anyways.

If the name originates from Nepalese (or other languages of the subcontinent) please create an etymology section and add the description. Otherwise, I am removing the Nepalese name. BasilLeaf (talk) 20:31, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Naming

[edit]

The town's English common name is Shigatse, so all references to the town should also use this name. I know the "official" name is "Xigazê", but this is rarely if ever used outside PRC government-linked sources. Jpatokal (talk) 07:39, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
