Shanan Halbert Bully allegations
[edit]Can someone add his bully allegations into the Wikipedia page
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/election-2023-labour-mp-shanan-halbert-rocked-by-bullying-allegations/XOHX4DUHSRHY3AD6JJ5HHZ2DYA/ MagicMagicKing (talk) 02:46, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
- Feel free to have a go yourself, MagicMagicKing. Or do you have a conflict of interest that's stopping you? Schwede66 04:04, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Schwede66 Never added anything to Wiki before, afraid I'll get in trouble or do it wrong, hence why I asked if someone else could. MagicMagicKing (talk) 04:33, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
- I tell you what. Why don't you write here what you want to add. Including references. It's as good a training ground as any! If you do a good job, we'll copy it over to the article. If it needs mending, we'll do so here and explain to you why. Deal, MagicMagicKing? Schwede66 07:27, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Schwede66
- Labour's Shanan Halbert labelled bully by multiple former employees:
- Newshub reported on the 29/09/2023 that Labour's Shanan Halbert MP for Northcote has had a number of former staff accuse him of bully allegations.
- The Labour Party was alerted to concerns of his alleged behaviour a year ago but because staffers wanted to remain anonymous, there was no formal process undertaken. A number of staff who worked in various roles have alleged that he is "manipulative, "scheming, "a narcissist" and they live in fear of him.
- When Newshub had a quick phone call with Halbert, he said "I mean there's been certainly challenges in employment over different parts of my life but I can't pinpoint any particular time that you might be referring to," he said. However one staff member said that "he was just an asshole". "I felt belittled, I felt unsafe". Another said "He treated me like shit". Another said "I felt intimidated being around him".
- Halbert provided a statement to Newshub on Thursday night: "I've had good working relationships with staff both inside parliament and in other roles I've held outside of parliament".
- "Occasionally employment issues arise in any workplace, but I have always done my best to work through those professionally and appropriately sought advice and support where required. "These issues have only been brought to my attention through the media today. I've never had a formal complaint raised against me.
- Halbert also said to newsbub on Thursday night: "If a staff member feels that they were poorly treated then I would like to resolve this by engaging in the process that parliament has set up for dealing with complaints. I think it's important for the person that's made allegations anonymously and for me. It's so important that the safety and well-being of all people involved is maintained. That would be the best and fairest way to resolve this."
- Not exactly sure how to write the rest of the article in, is this enough? Source is below.

- Nah, MagicMagicKing, that wouldn't do. Way too long; you'd have issues with balance as per WP:UNDUE. Either way, somebody else has since written something so this task is complete. Schwede66 19:20, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

Date of birth
[edit]Ajf773, I could not see in the source where it says that he was born on 24 April. Did I overlook it or is this unreferenced? Note that we cannot have unreferenced DOB in a BLP. Schwede66 22:32, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
- It was notified on his own social media account (facebook) so I have every reason to believe this is true, although that is probably not suitable as a source. I have not found any independent sources with this content so far. I somewhat agree with what you are saying, although if we are going to display ages for BLP, we should avoid using ambiguous ages (41 or 42). Ajf773 (talk) 09:58, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
- If we know that someone was born in a particular year, then there is an age range; the template works that out. There's nothing wrong with it. And yes, social media posts, even if by the subject themselves, aren't regarded as reliable sources for birthdays. Schwede66 11:08, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
- Per WP:ABOUTSELF someone posting their own birth date on social media would probably be okay as a source if it is from a verified channel. 331dot (talk) 11:12, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
- I did not know that! Thanks for pointing me to ABOUTSELF, 331dot. Ajf773, could you please add the Facebook reference to the DOB? Schwede66 20:56, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
- Schwede66 No problem. :) 331dot (talk) 21:09, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
