[edit]

I don't agree that this article reads like an advertisement. The user who added the tag did not offer any justification or input. I believe it should be removed. Any opinions? Lord Bodak 14:21, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The second sentence looks like a blatant shill to me. If you disagree, feel free to remove the {{advert}} tag. Isopropyl 14:37, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I took out the part specifying the $7 commission. But they are known for their online features (they were one of the first online brokerages, their commissions are much better than the competition, and their founder does appear in the commercials. What do you think we need to say to make it not sound like a blatant shill? Lord Bodak 15:12, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Saying that Scottrade's commissions are "much better than the competition" would definitely be POV, but that's not on the page. Saying they're known for their low commissions is also POV unless the source is a reputable third-party. Isopropyl 22:58, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Now wait a second. Commissions are not opinion, they're quantitative. We're talking a dollar value, how is it subjective or POV to say $7 is better than $10? Lord Bodak 23:43, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think it should be "they have the lowest commissions of any stockbroker" or something. --Liface 23:56, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have a Scottrade account. Saying they have the lowest commissions is CORRECT. Find me a brokerage firm that has offices and the extensive website they provide for $7 trades, regardless of account size or trading frequency...it does not exist.

aside: while watching the current series of Scottrade ads, has anyone noticed that the tail rotor on the helicopter which Rodger Riney appears to be piloting is not even spinning? In real life, a helicopter in this configuration would gyrate dangerously out of control. Where were the tech advisers when this commercial was being produced? Escherplex 16:42, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

umm...who cares about the tail of the helicopter? Do you know how many 'goofs' movies have? TONS; it happens.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.250.11.215 (talkcontribs) 01:17, 31 July 2007

I've deleted all the corporate propaganda from this article. There's not much left. To all editors affiliated with Scottrade: please do not edit this article directly. If you would like to suggest changes and additions, please leave messages here on the talk page. Please include a reference to an independent source of information whenever possible. Wikipedia generally prefers to link to news sources, such as the Wall Street Journal, rather than corporate press releases. Thanks. - Jehochman Talk 02:10, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request to remove sentence without source

[edit]

Hi, I’m the social media manager at Scottrade, and I recently noticed that an unsubstantiated claim had been added to our page. I’d like to request that the following sentence be removed, as it does not include a source and cannot be substantiated. Thank you.

Sentence to be removed: Recently given the changes in philosophy within Scottrade, including the termination of more experienced and higher paid brokers and branch managers, Scottrade has not entered the '100 Best Companies to Work For' list.

74.114.36.65 (talk) 17:56, 15 April 2015 (UTC)Lauren[reply]

Agreed. Not only is it unsourced, it seems unlikely that a publisher of those lists would make this kind of statement. Msubotin (talk) 14:05, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Second request to remove sentence without source

Attempts to suppress details of the hacking incident

[edit]

There have been repeated attempts to remove some details of the hacking incident without providing justification for the removal. The cited source clearly states (emphasis mine): "Scottrade disclosed last week that cybercriminals penetrated a database of more than 4.6 million clients’ personal information, including Social Security numbers, email addresses, client names, street addresses and “other sensitive data,” in late 2013 and early 2014. That data included brokerage account numbers, spokeswoman Lizzie Curry revealed Thursday."[1] If another RS disputes these specifics, please add a statement to that effect and source it. Otherwise, please refrain from making disruptive edits. Thanks

Request to update Scottrade's company description

[edit]

Hi, my name is Lauren Ebner, and I'm the social media manager at Scottrade. With the introduction of new products and services, our company has evolved from being considered an online brokerage to an investment services firm, and we would like to request that this change be reflected on our Wikipedia page. We are asking for the first line of our article to be changed from "Scottrade is a privately owned American discount retail brokerage firm headquartered in Town and Country, Missouri." to "Scottrade is a privately-held financial services firm headquartered in Town and Country, Missouri." The source for that information can be found here: <ref> https://about.scottrade.com/news/releases/2015/A-New-Day-at-Scottrade-Leading-Investment-Services-Company-Announces-New-Officers-Unveils-Investment-Management-for-Clients.html <ref> 74.114.36.65 (talk) 14:59, 27 May 2016 (UTC)Lauren Ebner, Scottrade[reply]

Thank you. But the source you have provided is from the company's website. Wikipedia requires reliable secondary sources independent of the subject. I would be glad if you could provide such a source. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 16:08, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Lemongirl1942. Would either of these sources work? <ref> http://finance.yahoo.com/news/day-scottrade-leading-investment-services-143900786.html <ref> or <ref> http://www.plansponsor.com/NewsStory.aspx?id=6442517775 <ref>. I really appreciate your help! 74.114.36.65 (talk) 19:58, 31 May 2016 (UTC) Lauren Ebner, Scottrade[reply]

Trying to update sources

[edit]

I noticed that the page said that there was an issue with sources (primarily referencing their website). I am trying to:

  • clean up the advertising on the page,
  • get things in the right chronological order
  • find valid sources for what's remaining.

I'm still new to Wikipedia, but I read that for major changes, it's best to discuss them here, or to build out the page on my talk page so that the content can be structured properly and accurately before going live. Scottrade Update Proposal is what I'm currently working on and I could use some help getting some of the sections fleshed out.
Currently, the only part I feel is close to complete is the "History" section as far as sourcing goes. Any input on language is appreciated. What I could really use help on is the award section and I'm still learning how to format and I'm not sure the best way to proceed with this because the live version just feels like a mess.
JLBEdit85 (talk) 14:32, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Just an update on this. I think I have the "Awards" and "Controversy" sections mapped out, but I am still not sure if I'm pleased with the formatting. JLBEdit85 (talk) 20:18, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I believe I have most of this page updated appropriately. I could not find sources for all the services they offer, so if no one has an issue with this, I may provide a link to their services page for this content only. (The primary website I did find information on these issues is apparently blacklisted by Wikipedia. I'll leave the changes up for a week, but if there are no problems with the content, I plan on updating the "Live" page Friday. Feedback is highly appreciated. I am still learning formatting, so this in particular I'd appreciate help on. JLBEdit85 (talk) 14:44, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If there are no independent sources it isn't noteworthy to include. Wikipedia is not a webhost for article subjects. Jytdog (talk) 19:03, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the reply. I kept it in because I was trying to keep the format of the page as close to the original (live) page as possible. I will remove it from my Draft. JLBEdit85 (talk) 15:04, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hey all, just an update. Plan to update the content for this page today. Per comments from Jytdog, I removed the "services" section since I couldn't find independent sources to back up all the listings. JLBEdit85 (talk) 13:24, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I updated the information on the page, but did not remove the Flag since I am still a new editor here and wanted to make sure the people maintaining this page were ok with the changes. JLBEdit85 (talk) 13:47, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
many of your changes are not actually supported by the sources given. not good. Be sure in the future that sources support the content. I am fixing now. Jytdog (talk) 20:14, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This page is complete.

[edit]

I can see that this talk page has not been updated in years. I have done much work in updating citations to support content, and refining this page to support the history of a now defunct brand currently owned by Charles Schwab Corporation via the soon-to-be defunct TD Ameritrade. Let me know if there are any fixes that any one wants to go over. NorthPark1 (talk) 14:11, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
