Jewish/Jewish ancestry

[edit]

This should be mentioned more prominently in the article. Currently, it is only listed as a category under Jewish American Politicians. 2601:8C:4102:1210:4DA3:A5B2:690E:9EAB (talk) 20:30, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure how much attention is needed in regards to it, but here[1] is one source for some information relating to his religious practices if anyone feels the info is needed. WikiVirusC(talk) 20:37, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV

[edit]

This article is decidedly one-sided and focusses almost exclusively on criticisms of Scott Israel. For all the criticism of him, there seems to be no mention of public censure, disciplinary action or official rebuke. Definitely a candidate for an NPOV tag. Flanker235 (talk) 14:19, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I can't seem to find anyone supporting this guy since it became known that his deputies did not enter the building during the shooting. His criticism seems very widespread. And he himself has avoided answering questions about what how his deputies acted or why the warning signs about Cruz was ignored. Last story I saw, he refused to answer questions, other than saying wait for the report. The report he was referring to was the one ordered by the Governor of Florida which I believe will come out at the end of the month. So unless you have some sources that show people praising his handling of the shooting, I don't see any NPOV issue.--Rusf10 (talk) 03:41, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This article isn't about the shooting it's about the Sheriff. If the coverage is out in sources is all negative about the sources, it's one thing, but that doesn't mean the entire article should have a negative tone, which is what he means by the POV. The biggest section we have is the Douglas shooting, and then the next is a criticism section. Outside of the basic bio information the rest is kinda focusing on just the bad, So I agree with their opinion, and some more should be added for a balanced view. WikiVirusC(talk) 04:31, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If there's something else worth adding, I'm not opposed to it. However, the shooting and aftermath is the largest part of the article because that is the event that he is known for. He also screwed up the Fort Lauderdale shooting and although its not in the article, I believe I read somewhere he was the subject of several investigations for misconduct before he became sheriff. Other than winning an election, he hasn't been that successful. Related to the election, something that probably should be expanded on his relationship with Roger Stone. Stone originally opposed him, but four years later endorsed him.--Rusf10 (talk) 05:34, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiVirusC That's exactly what I mean. We're not here to bury him or to praise him, to take the Shakespearean view. For the record, I didn't like his initial comments about Parkland but equally I know it wasn't all his fault that Cruz was overlooked. More importantly, that is not the only thing the article should look at. I came here to find out more about the man and I learnt very little, save for the fact that he seems unpopular with some sections of the community. We have one person's view that "he screwed up the Ft Lauderdale shooting" but we don't have any information one way or the other (for the record, the Wiki article about that incident makes no criticism of him). That would be worth investigating but in a non-partisan way. Flanker235 (talk) 15:29, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I checked to see how Stone "supported" Israel. I couldn't find anything except a paywalled article from the Sun Sentinel and a referral to an 11-year old Facebook post, which is not an RSS. Tired of looking, I finally subscribed for 6 months digital only for $1 and decided I'd pay for the info, no matter what it said. In fact, in 2008, Stone opposed Israel by one of Roger's famous dirty tricks. He had robocalls identifying Israel as a Republican made to "D" voters in a very Democratic district in 2008. In 2012, he was a friend of Israel's campaign manager, but that is a universe from confirming the alleged support. Activist (talk) 20:28, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Neutral Point of View

[edit]

I recently Undid revision 877755030 by SamHolt6 (talk) Now using the biography on the Broward Sheriff's Office website, not controversial or editorial opinions.

I am using the biography as it is currently on the website of the Broward Sheriff's Office. Nearly all of the other articles used are one-sided, biased and it does not include a wealth of very positive information that has previously been published about Scott Israel. Looking at all of the original revisions and edits made in the last few months the intention was to create a one-sided and biased page. In a previous talk section someone suggested that nobody supports this guy and that is also untrue. Outside of political opponents Scott Israel has very broad and deep support among residents of Broward County. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NoNRAmoney (talkcontribs) 18:23, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@NoNRAmoney: the issue is that, as an encyclopedia, Wikipedia concerns verification, not truth. Wikipedia also holds that reliable sources like the Sun Sentinel and CBS News have done their due diligence and are reporting accurate information.--SamHolt6 (talk) 00:28, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Scott Israel will be terminated later today, as sheriff.

[edit]

Sheriff Scott Israel will be fired today, in about an hour, by the new governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, over negligence concerning the parkland shooting, a vote of no-confidence, and prior misconduct. The article should be updated when the announcement is made.[1] 2601:982:4200:A6C:E13B:BCE0:6040:F1E6 (talk) 21:10, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I read the 34-page Special Master's report authored by the former Republican FL Senate president. He said there were zero grounds for suspension of Israel by DeSantis in his department's dealing with the Fort Lauderdale airport shooter who killed five. Rather he praised the deputy's work who was at the airport, ran when he heard the shooting, and disarmed him on 85 seconds later. Other BSO deputies dealt appropriately with the wounded. A deputy from another jurisdiction came to the scene afterward, claimed he heard more shooting, and panicked the crowd of travelers, but it was not BSO. The Special Master, analyzed a substantial amount of evidence, and even though he didn't always agree with Israel's actions, said DeSantis was just wrong on the charges he presented. In the case of Parkland, again there was no case made, though a long tenured deputy on-site and on contract to the school district was cravenly cowardly, hid himself, and directed other arriving or on-site officers to not search for and confront the shooter. The SM noted that Israel had 5,600 employees I'd heard recently that Israel said you can train Deputies, but you can't instill courage in any particular one. I'll remove the tag. Tag

[edit]

A cleanup tag has been added atop the page. But what calls for cleanup is less than apparent. Please indicate what prompts that tag. Thanks. 2603:7000:2143:8500:B518:F202:A717:EA74 (talk) 21:12, 16 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
