Welsh Wally has been adding material refuting the Savoy's claim as "Britains first luxury hotel". This is a marketing claim made by the hotel; the article has been amended to remove this terminology from the article itself. While the Savoy was the first to introduce certain "luxurious" amenities (electric lighting, lifts, room service, en-suite baths, etc), there is not a clear enough definition of the term "luxury hotel" for any one entity to claim title to being the first. Wally's material has been removed, as it is poorly sourced, and give undue weight to an argument that is easily resolved by simply removing the marketing claim from the article text. @Ssilvers: I will grant that the Savoy has a well-oiled media machine and has gotten that phrase buried in a lot of media stories. But it's a meaningless statement. Since there is no definition of "luxury hotel", there is no way to definitively state what hotel has the right to claim status as "first". One could claim that the first hotel / inn to offer indoor plumbing would count as the "first luxury hotel" (in a land where indoor plumbing is rare, such an amenity would be considered a luxury). We could get even more absurd. I believe it is best to state the actual, definable and verifiable firsts that the Savoy did achieve without trying to tie this undefinable quality to it.
