Wikiproject WikiProject Fife

[edit]

Description

[edit]

This article would cover all Fife-related articles such as places, famous people, museums, football and rugby clubs and churches to name a few. Examples would be: Kirkcaldy, Andrew Carnegie, Adam Smith, Dunfermline Abbey, Dunfermline Athletic, The Old Course and Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Gallery. This could also help support articles that really do need a lot of work while keeping general maintenance. Examples would be: Methil, Dunfermline, Cupar and a lot of the smaller towns such as Kennoway and Lower Largo. Please see the discussion at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals#Wikiproject_WikiProject_Fife. Kilnburn (talk) 16:26, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fleming's Nationality was Canadian. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.215.87.172 (talk) 14:43, 28 April 2008 (UTC) [reply]

Date of birth

[edit]

DATE OF BIRTH--Dictionary of Canadian Biography states January 7; a brochure in Halifax says July 7??

The Toronto Globe (predecessor of The Globe and Mail) also notes the date of January 7, on Page 6 of the July 23rd Edition (Headline on Page 1, noting the "Empire Builder passes to Rest"). I'm going to revert the date back unless you can give other sources of his birth date. Bacl-presby 17:43, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A quick check on Google yields 448 for January OR Jan 7 versus 88 for July OR Jul 7. A clear preference for January 7, but this is not a scientific sample nor is it authoritative. In an earlier search, I did note that several of those sites which gave a day of death gave only a year of birth, 1827. — Joe Kress 06:39, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If it wasn't so cold right now, I'd go up to Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa to look up the dates on his gravestone!! (Wouldn't be surprised if someone has put the Beechwood Cemetery stones on line, either!!) Bacl-presby 17:08, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First name spelling: Sandford or Sanford?

[edit]

In the article, Fleming's given name alternates between "Sandford" and "Sanford" (without the "d"). Which is it? It seems it is "Sandford" but unsure. - quanta (talk) 19:53, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting that in the Legacy section of this page about Sir Sanford Fleming, one or two sentences be added to describe Sir Sanford Fleming Park in Halifax. There is a Wikipedia page for this park, which can be used both to provide some content for the Sir Sanford Fleming page, and can link the two pages together. The Sir Sanford Fleming PARK Wikipedia page already links to the Sir Sandford Fleming page, but not vice versa. Here is the link to the PARK page: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Sir_Sandford_Fleming_Park

Thank you. 99.192.68.115 (talk) 12:31, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: There is mention of the park in the last sentence of the "Later life" section. DRAGON BOOSTER 16:20, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format. It's not best practice to simply copy text from another article, but if you'll propose what you'd like added, someone will reconsider your request. Just type it below, then change the "answered" parameter back to "no". Be sure to include at least one reliable source to support your proposed addition. The 'Family' section presently reads: "After the death of his wife Jeanie in 1888, Fleming's niece Miss Elsie Smith, daughter of Alexander and Lily Smith, of Kingussie, Scotland, presided over his household at "Winterholme" 213 Chapel Street, Ottawa, Ontario.[5]" However, after research 213 Chapel Street in Ottawa Ontario, I noticed the address does not exist. Given the historical weight of Winterholme, I gathered it might be a protected heritage property. As a result I researched and found out it is listed under the City of Ottawa's protected heritage sites, however the address is 309-311 Daly Ave [1]. Consequently, I am requesting that the aforementioned sentence in the 'Family' section be modified to: The 'Family' section presently reads: "After the death of his wife Jeanie in 1888, Fleming's niece Miss Elsie Smith, daughter of Alexander and Lily Smith, of Kingussie, Scotland, presided over his household at "Winterholme" 309-311 Chapel Street [5] [2], Ottawa, Ontario[6]." The two sentences on the page should say "he emigrated to Upper Canada not "colonial" Canada. Hatgirl007 (talk) 20:08, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: It appears colonial Canada could be correct. Let's leave this here to see what other editors think of this proposed change. -- Dane talk 01:00, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Addition of Sir Sandford Fleming Park in Halifax, Nova Scotia under Legacy. http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Sir_Sandford_Fleming_Park 142.239.254.19 (talk) 02:35, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Also, this article does not have the word "Legacy" anywhere on the page--not sure why you linked that at the end of your message. However, the section "Legacy" does exist on this page (main page of this talk page). Also, please clarify what change you would like made, i.e. the entire constructed sentence. Please clarify, and provide reliable sources . --JustBerry (talk) 05:17, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

he proposed a single 24-hour clock for the entire world, located at the centre of the Earth, not linked to any surface meridian.

Eh? What does 'located' mean here, and how can a 24 hour clock not coincide with the mean time of some meridian? —Tamfang (talk) 17:57, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Recent reversion

[edit]

Hi, Freshacconci. Regarding your recent reversion, where is it in the body of the article that you are saying the date of the subject's death is located? And why is it that you're wanting to exclude the subject's fellowship of the Royal Society of Canada from his post-nominal letters? 142.160.89.97 (talk) 03:32, 18 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
