Crime statistics

[edit]

When I visit the Department of Justice site and generate a table using Salinas Police Department to check the years from 1985 to 2008 (2009 is not an option), it gives me the data up to 2007. I am not seeing 2008 and 2009 in the table. Is this an error on my part or is the data for those 2 years unsourced? TransOceanic (talk) 05:41, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What about the lyrics of Me and Bobby McGee? 85.64.219.179 (talk) 20:32, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree! I just added a reference. Sourced! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Planlorr (talkcontribs) 00:47, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Consensus has already been reached not to add "passing mentions of the subject", per WP:IPCV. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:16, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Some places have easy to rhyme names, like Salinas. Some places just sound lyrical (Winnemucca, Nevada comes to mind). It is pointless to add mere mentions of the town name in lyrics, as it does nothing to increase the reader's knowledge of the community. If the song lyric actually relates a story about the community, and a secondary source discusses that, adding that information would be appropriate (with appropriate sourcing.) Besides, there are over a half dozen places around the world named Salinas. You have no source stating that the Salinas in the song is Salinas, California. What about the okies???

[edit]

The hispanic prevelance has been relatively recent... like they started to transition in in the late 60’s but didnt have much significance till the mid 80’s or so. From the 30’s and 40’s it was midwesterners who replaced the Phillipinos who came after the Japanese... in the mid 60’s as far as i knew, Alisal was mostly “Dust Bowl refugees” and had relatively few hispanics. Larry Hosford, Salinas singer, songwriter

[edit]

Larry Hosford, aka Lorenzo, was a nationally know country and western singer and songwriter. 1975 his album Larry Hosford, aka Lorenzo was released by Shelter records, and another album, Cross Words in 1976. Four tracks of these albums made the Billboard Country Charts. [1] Hosford is known for his songwriting. The King takes the Queen is one of his most popular songs. (I do not have a citation for this yet) I think he should be on the notable Salinas residents list. His wonderful song "Salinas" is about Okies and Mexicans, full of appreciation for both. What do you think? Toandael49 (talk) 11:28, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The KIng takes the Queen 1975 I do not know how to cite a record, any ideas? Can I quote the liner notes from Shelter Records? Toandael49 (talk) 11:36, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hosford recorded a song with George Harrison, see [1]. He also had two songs on a Billboard chart, see [2]. An article about him would likely pass WP:MUSICBIO. Magnolia677 (talk) 12:50, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Use Template:Cite AV media notes to cite liner notes. Fettlemap (talk) 13:12, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Another source which isn't an obituary. Magnolia677 (talk) 14:12, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If I use these citations/references can I add Larry Hosford back to the notable Salinas people? I do understand that obituaries (written and paid for by family often), that is why I cited news stories about Hosford's death, thank you Magnolia, the excellent source about his work with George Harrison Toandael49 (talk) 16:57, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would continue to oppose inclusion of this person until an article about him is created. So why don't you follow the advice you've been given repeatedly since you started this and WP:WTAF? The person in question's notability will continue to be uncertain until you do, and if he is truly notable, creating a biography on him will do much more to improve the encyclopedia than wasting every other involved editor's time trying to carve out an WP:IAR exception like you are doing here. John from Idegon (talk) 17:38, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I am trying to learn how to do this and to learn the Wikipedia policies. Thank you for taking the time to help me. Toandael49 (talk) 17:59, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Air Quality today, fire a factor, up to date data needed

[edit]

The was a claim that Salinas was in the top ten for best air quality, but that was in 2015. It might be different now, and the fires have a big impact. I have added the date to the earlier figure, but we need to get some current data. Toandanel49 (talk) 23:07, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Someone deleted a section.

[edit]

Someone deleted the neighborhoods section from the article before I restored it. Please don't delete it again! Sheanobeano (talk) 00:41, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Local politicians

[edit]

The page is incorrect in saying that the representatives for the Salinas area are anyone other than Robert Rivas is our State Assemblyman and Speaker of the Assembly or that anyone other than Anna Caballero is our State Senator. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tiamatsdad (talkcontribs) 04:14, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Transportation

[edit]

> The Salinas Rail extension aims to provide weekday rail service to Gilroy and San Jose Diridon station by 2024.

The project is officially called the Monterey County Rail Extension. Per a (paywalled) citation from that article, as of 2022 the extension "is expected to ... finish as early as 2025."

> Public transportation via bus is provided by Monterey–Salinas Transit (MST). Public buses take passengers throughout the county, as well as San Jose and Gilroy. Buses to San Jose and Gilroy connect to Caltrain and Amtrak in those cities.

MST no longer serves San Jose nor connects with Amtrak. It did recently reestablish weekday-only Salinas-Gilroy service (Rt 59), the first and last round trips of which do connect with Caltrain.

> Greyhound operates from the Salinas Amtrak station with service to other California cities and throughout the United States.

Greyhound has abandoned Salinas like it has most cities. They no longer staff the station, and last I checked a month or two ago, the only "Greyhound" tickets you could book to/from Salinas were a four-times-weekly Flixbus (Oakland-Los Angeles), a daily AmericanStar (SJ-LA, AKA Amtrak Thruway Rt 21 for the Capitol Corridor), and a weekend MST (Del Rey Oaks-King City, which I suspect to be a ghost Rt 82 or 86, neither of which have operated since 2020 - in any case, MST's only remaining service between KC and points north is Rt 23(X), and they no longer mention Greyhound on any of their timetables).

Amtrak Thruway Rts 17 (four-times-daily SB/San Luis Obispo-Oakland for the Pacific Surfliner) and 68 (twice-daily Salinas-Carmel for the Coast Starlight) also serve Salinas, though these are still restricted by SB 804 so tickets are only sold with a train connection. 67.188.118.88 (talk) 19:15, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
