RVPS during Ww2

[edit]

There seems to be a bit of mythology concerning the school's WW2 role as a refugee screening centre. That is all it was and there were no cells or thumbscrews! The inmates were treated well but every effort was made to get every shred of useful intelligence. There were other (very grim) interrogation centres for POWs and suspected spies, but RVPS was not one of them. 80.2.237.179 (talk) 21:05, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Following on from this, given that the London Reception Centre was the first-level screening of people coming to the UK from the continent during WW2, it seems surprising that it doesn't have its own wikipedia page separate from the building it was occupying. There is extensive information on its operation in its official history in the National Archives, and in a briefer form from p221 of the "The Security Service from 1908-1945" ( available on Google books). Suspected spies were then sent on to Camp 020.
Data from the LRC has been used in many books and studies since it was declassified. Mwarhurst1 (talk) 22:00, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Post War

[edit]

The Spencer Park School was housed in the RVPB and also in new buildings adjacent, built sometime around 1960. The last classes were held in the old building in 1976/7...I was at Honeywell JMI until 1976,and some of my classmates who went to Spencer Park had lessons there in their First Year. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.75.59.243 (talk) 21:59, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
