History of home ownership and acquisition by Smalls
[edit]This article does not give a full picture of the historic ownership of the home and the story of how Robert Smalls acquired it. Originally built and owned by Henry McKee, the home was eventually purchased by William de Treville in 1850. Robert Smalls purchased the home in 1864 after the Civil War and de Treville petitioned the Supreme Court to uphold his bill of sale in the precedent-setting case ("de Treville vs Smalls") upon which the Supreme Court sided with Smalls and gave him the home. 99.97.141.22 (talk) 01:23, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
