Oxted Millers
[edit]Burley family - millers in Oxted in the eighteenth century. Mill unknown.(Curious Fox)
Source
[edit]According to the Ordnance Survey the source is in Limpsfield Titsey Parish, 51°16′37″N 0°02′12″E / 51.276894°N 0.036654°E, in an unnamed patch of boggy scrub to the north of Clacket Wood. Follow the link and select Ordnance Survey "Get-a-Map" for confirmation. On some larger-scale maps (accessed through the "Magic" link) it's marked as "issue". I propose to change this shortly, subject to other editors' views and suggestions for wording. --Old Moonraker (talk) 22:09, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- Done. --Old Moonraker (talk) 12:16, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
- Error: the parishes of Limpsfield and Titsey are combined for church purposes but not in the civil adminstration. Thanks to User:Mjroots for noticing this. --Old Moonraker (talk) 13:32, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Info box
[edit]Now that I have repaired the co-ordinates in the info box (which were leading to some open land near Pyry) I have taken them out of the lead paragraph text, to aid readability. However, I acknowledge that this is not consistent with the practice later in the article and will happily reinstate if this is the wish of other editors. I've also removed the perfectly accurate "Tandridge" and "Sevenoaks" from the infobox because it implies a connection with the village and town, respectively, rather than the administrative districts. I have substituted the counties. --Old Moonraker (talk) 13:21, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Haxted mill and map move
[edit]It's all in Surrey, quite a way from the border [1]. The boundary is about a mile to the east, on Kent Brook rather than the Eden just here.
On my browser having the map on the left forces the table of contents to the centre, with a huge white space all around it, looking most odd. Would editors consider moving it back please? --Old Moonraker (talk) 07:05, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- On my browser, having the map on the right creates a large area of blank space to the left of the infobox. Re the border issue, I remember Mr Woodrow explaining that the county border ran through the waterwheel. I've checked my 1903-10 OS map and that shows the border along the Kent Brook. Maybe the border did run through the mill many years back. For the moment, I'll ensure the three articles say Surrey, and if I can find concrete proof of an earlier border, I'll add it in with the reference for the same. Question is, if the mill isn't in Kent, what parish is it in? Mjroots (talk) 14:10, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
- I've moved the map into the infobox. Looks much better on my browser. Mjroots (talk) 14:22, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
