- ... that Rich Strike was drawn into the Kentucky Derby field just minutes before the deadline? Source: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/05/07/kentucky-derby/ "About 10 minutes later, a little piece of Derby history involved a “pony girl, Fifi.” That’s how Reed described the yeoman worker who phoned him to say that, indeed, trainer D. Wayne Lukas and owners had decided to scratch Ethereal Road, right around the 9 a.m. deadline. The next call came from Barbara Borden, the chief steward. Would Reed like to enter Race 12 on Saturday?"
- ALT1: ... that the trainer of Rich Strike was so shocked to see his horse win the 2022 Kentucky Derby that he collapsed in the paddock? Source: https://theathletic.com/3299361/2022/05/07/long-shot-rich-strike-wins-kentucky-derby/ "In the paddock, Reed flat-out collapsed. “I’ve had some back issues and my legs might have buckled a little bit. Or at least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it,’’ he says. The trainer splayed on the ground and started a near dogpile as he was crushed by a joyful celebration that soon spilled onto the track."
- ALT2: ... that Rich Strike was the biggest longshot horse to win the Kentucky Derby in 109 years? Source: https://www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/horses/kentucky-derby/2022/05/07/rich-strike-wins-2022-kentucky-derby-churchill-downs/6552209001/ "At 80-1 odds, Rich Strike scored the second-biggest upset in Kentucky Derby history and paid $163.60 on a $2 win bet. Donerail, at 91-1 odds in 1913, is the longest shot to win the race."

- Comment: Likely to be at ITN soon but not as a bolded page in the ITN entry (the only bolded page would be 2022 Kentucky Derby per the current ITN/C page), which should mean it's still eligible.

- I think the best hook would be the original hook, but for it I would suggest revising it to mention that it was the winner of the race. Simply saying that the horse was a last minute entry IMO wouldn't have been that interesting or unusual without the context of the horse going on to win. - ALT0a: ... that 2022 Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike was drawn into the field just minutes before the deadline? @Narutolovehinata5: Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 06:06, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
- Article was new and long enough, free from close paraphrasing, and with all hooks cited inline. My preferred hook is ALT0a; it is cited inline and mentioned in the article, I am assuming good faith for the sources as they are paywalled for me. My only concern is the word "deadline"; it's a bit vague so maybe it should be specified that the "deadline" being referred to here was the entry deadline. - ALT0b: ... that 2022 Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike was drawn into the field just minutes before the entry deadline?
- Thank you! Approving ALT0b only. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 02:01, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
Update on Rich Strike after going to Bill Mott.
[edit]what is going on with Rich Strike? When is Bill Mott going to get him in training again? Not a word on Rich Strike since May when Bill Mott took over as his trainer.
Does anyone have any information about this? He has been at Blackwood Stables all summer. Rich Strike was supposed to be out of training for 30 days for rest and revaluation. . Is he ok? Is he going to be retired?
