General Issues
[edit]There are some more problems with resets that may deserve attention in this post:
- “Reset” is somewhat of a misnomer, for a reset doesn’t really reset anything. In the end, resets are author style sheets just like other author style sheets.
- In practice, resets are often used without need or effect, to the extent that when resets are removed, presentation doesn’t change.
- In practice, and even when a reset has some desired effect, they often target additional elements not used at all (resets are practically never customized to the markup at hand—another issue), therefore unnecessarily increasing payload and reducing performance.
- There are many more CSS resets out there by now which could (or should) be included.
