Suggest linking to this page from either the main 'Italy' page or the 'Geography of Italy' page. The pages for most other major European countries have this type of reference.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Colobus (talkcontribs)

Sardinia gets additional resources from the Italian state in order to finance all services???

it's totally false, the italian state has got a debt of futher 6 billions euro towards Sardinia, italian state doesn't pay reparations from 16 years to sardinia for the taxes paid from sardinians, infact the italian goverment has begun to compensate sardinia. inform themselves about the question of the "vertenza delle entrate della regione sardegna"

the italian goverment are denying to sardinia also 11 billions of european funds from more than 1 year, contrary sicily instead hasn't problems of this kind (it has received immediately 4 billions euros from the italian goverment some months ago)

Sardinia & Sicily

The provinces of Italy article tells that currently Sardinia has 8 provinces, not "-" as it is on the table. However, if someone tried to update already to the 2014 situation, the provinces article tells Sicily do not have any provinces either. There might be more differencies, and the province article might have wrong information, though it has source(s) for the changes. 82.141.95.202 (talk) 00:03, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

boiler plate map?

crazy question. can I get a simple map that shows the regions? lol

there's the one highlighting the autonomous regions. that's cool. I would like to see one with each region labeled & perhaps even with a wikilink to the respective articles. I'm thinkin this file can be used. love to help but I would need a little training first. thanks T-303 (talk) 21:41, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

History

The precursors of Regions were Compartimenti, from the 1860s to 1948, which did not have any self-government. See for example http://www.provincia.torino.gov.it/speciali/2012/convegno_pubblico/dwd/circoscrizioni_provinciali_palombelli_25gennaio2012.pdf --Severino (talk) 18:06, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Regions of Italy. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Regions' Table: Listing Regional Presidents with President of the Republic? Why Not President of the Council of Ministers?

Why comparing Regional Presidents with the President of the Republic (PdR)? The President of the Council of Ministers (PdC)(aka Prime Minister) it's more similar. The latter it's the executive head of governement like, as far i know, the Regional counterparts. PdR It's head of State with a very different role.

Scientist or Philosopher (talk) 21:07, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

Italy is a parliamentary republic with a head of state (the President of the Republic) and a separate head of government (the Prime Minister / President of the Council of Ministers).
The regions of Italy, on the other hand, work effectively as presidential systems (with some small corrections). The Presidents of the Regions are both "heads of state" and "heads of government" of the regions, so to speak. For example, (see Article 121 of the Constitution) it's the President of the Region that represents the region and promulgates regional laws. Both these roles are typically attributed to heads of state, rather than heads of government (where such a distinction exists).
The purpose of the "President" column of the table should be to list who represents the respective entity, not the head of a particular branch of government. While both Mattarella and Gentiloni are "Presidents", only one is the President of Italy, and it's the former. Loudo89 (talk) 11:46, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Deletion of infobox

All (probably) of the regions' individual pages used the template Infobox region of Italy, but that was deleted on 16 February 2019; see this discussion for the rationale. Just before the template was deleted, 77.183.150.15 used subst to replace its uses with the equivalent Template:Infobox settlement, but omitted to subst the internal #if constructs, resulting in redundant code. Also, Tuscany was missed (presumably because it used Infobox Region of Italy, but Chiorbone da Frittole‎ subsequently did the (partial) fix. See User talk:77.183.150.15#February 2019 for earlier discussion.

The main reasons for bringing this up are (a) to mention that those redundant #if constructs need to be flattened and (b) to check that no other actual Regions were missed. I think the page here contains the canonical list of Regions. For (a) I already fixed Puglia by hand, and I think the rest are fairly easy to fix mechanically by changing each {{#if to {{subst:#if. I've run out of time right now, but perhaps someone can dive in and run through them and verify we caught them all (and list the converted pages here). David Brooks (talk) 21:08, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

I think I got them all, using the list from Regions of Italy#Regions. I'd appreciate a random verification. David Brooks (talk) 20:03, 19 February 2019 (UTC)

Map not working

Recent editors: @Nick.mon, Ita140188, Ritchie92, Foghe, Afus199620, Dk1919 Franking, and GenerationCurrent2015: The map at the top of the article is broken, and it was working when I first looked at the page early yesterday. Can anyone determine what happened to it? The template itself has not had any edits since March. —DocWatson42 (talk) 05:15, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

DocWatson42, I took |float=right out of the code and it seems to work ok - but seemed a little slow to load. Not sure what caused that to stop working, I'll have a bit of a "dig". I'll leave it as it is without |float=right for now - but if that causes anything else funky or undesirable to happen, just revert me. -- Begoon 05:38, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
@Begoon: Thank you. ^_^ It is now also working for me. —DocWatson42 (talk) 05:41, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
DocWatson42, turns out the template was passing the alignment parameter in a way which should never have worked (and I'm not sure why it ever did). My guess is that some stricter HTML/XML parsing somewhere in the Mediawiki pipeline just became active and stopped what had been working (but strictly shouldn't have) from rendering. I hope that made sense...

Anyway, if you're interested, I think I fixed the template with these edits, and I've replaced |float=right in the article. If you're really interested, you can see the newly fixed template working using all 3 possibilities for |float= in the history of Template:Italy Labelled Map/testcases. -- Begoon 06:43, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

@Begoon: It does make sense, though I don't have the knowledge or skills to have figured that out, or to have implemented the fix. Thanks again! ^_^ —DocWatson42 (talk) 06:50, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

Reprise

There seem to still be ongoing (intermittent?) issues with this template, and as far as I can tell, they are often related to time-lags/problems obtaining the json data from the external map server. I have to confess that I'm not particularly in love with the current version anyway. The version before it was converted to call external data is in {{Italy Labelled Map/sandbox 2}} now, and I suppose we'd have the option to revert to that if we wanted to. I've included it here for discussion. Pinging @DocWatson42 and Foghe... -- Begoon 09:54, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Whatever you (and Foghe) think is best. I'm agnostic on the issue, as long as there is a working template that is equivalent to (or better than) the one we have now. —DocWatson42 (talk) 09:58, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
Ok, let's wait to see what others think - also pinging Underlying lk who seems to have done the conversion in March. Just noting there is also {{Italy Labelled Map Scalable}} which I quickly created for someone in a map workshop request years ago. -- Begoon 10:29, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
Prefer the version here on the right—the current is unlabeled and monochromatic, and problematic. --Foghe (talk) 15:31, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
Ok, well we should leave this here for a few days for comments from other editors. If there's consensus for a change back to this version at that point we can implement something. Thanks. -- Begoon 15:54, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
Not sure why Underlying lk changed the map from this to its current version. The current map does not show the various regions, which is what this article is about. If the current version ever loaded, maybe you'd be able to zoom to see the regions, but nonetheless, I think it should be changed back to this original version. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 16:10, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
I changed the example here in this section to use (the now updated) {{Italy Labelled Map Scalable}} and put a caption in the frame. I'd prefer to keep whatever we might decide to do here separate for now, because {{Italy Labelled Map}} is also used in a couple of other articles and, in any case, it's probably better to have separate versions so that development/improvement of the "json" version might continue. If you hadn't noticed, the place labels in {{Italy Labelled Map Scalable}} are clickable wikilinks, so as well as leading to the relevant article(s) they will show details with pop-ups etc... -- Begoon 01:08, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
@Begoon: It's not working at List of cities in Italy. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 01:22, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
It is when you purge the page, which I just did - but it's slow to load right now, and unreliable. I did make a couple of formatting changes to the template earlier today, so it probably had an old version cached, but that bright pink "json error" can also come up when the server lags, or an article page fails to load completely. That's one of the "issues" I'm concerned about - when I played with it in a sandbox you'd get a loading error (either the pink "json error" or just a totally blank map rectangle) anywhere from 5-10% of the time, which is not good. -- Begoon 01:58, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. Yes, that is a problem, which is why going back to this version seems like the best thing to do. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 02:04, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
The current version at the right looks good to me. If it can be made to work, I support it. —DocWatson42 (talk) 04:39, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
Well, I've updated this version, and created some parameters for display. If we do use it, the options are:
  • With an image frame and caption
  • With an image frame but no caption
  • With no image frame or caption but with a thin border instead
  • With no frame or border
  • Size anything from about 350px wide upwards
Sizes much smaller than about 350px are likely to get problems with type labels "colliding".

You can see examples of all the options in one place together if you go and look at the Template:Italy Labelled Map Scalable template page.

  • I've updated the example in this section with my 'favourite' style of all those - image frame + border + caption, 375px. -- Begoon 09:18, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
  • checkY...and, since nobody has so far objected, with all comments to date more or less in favour, I've made that change now. If anybody wants anything about that change altered then please just ping me here, or see the template documentation for available options. Thank you. -- Begoon 02:14, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

Two regions are no longer subdivided into provinces!

Since some time ago, the Friuli Venezia Giulia and Sicily are no longer subdivided into provinces! Instead, the former one is divided into "intermunicipal territorial unions" and the latter one into "liberi consorzi comunali" (this is not even reflected on the Sicily page!). Can someone correct it? Thanks! Johnnyjanko (talk) 07:35, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

Friuli and Venezia Giulia

These 2 regions were united only because Italy lost some territories to Yugoslavia and Venezia Giulia was only a small part of what it used to be.It should be mentioned 5.88.237.72 (talk) 12:12, 28 November 2021 (UTC)

Regions not quite what they seem

At some point we're going to have to deal with this: the various articles usually assume that the modern region is the same as the ancient Roman region. The error — that's what it is — is particularly important in the case of Lazio (not the same as the ancient Latium), Puglia (which should not be called Apulia, see current usage of English speakers who actually go there, travel agents, etc.; and Apulia in Antiquity was significantly different) and, the worst one, Calabria (which in Antiquity referred to a totally different area: to what is now southern Puglia: i.e., to the heel and not the toe).

I've already taken care of Umbria, q.v..

It would properly be best to have an article Regions of Roman Italy, with the 14 Augustan regions, and each of them would have their article, on the same pattern as the modern regions; the evolution of the regions and their names might best be treated in those articles.

Then all the links would have to be checked, much as someone/something these days is going thru [[Roman]] and changing some of them over to ancient Roman. Bill 08:31, 4 June 2005 (UTC)
