List of repos containing rclone
[edit]I, early in the page's life, included in the summary a short list of what I then felt were the most notable repos rclone is included in, and a reference source. That has now been edited to add two more. I'm fine with that, but if the consensus is that the list should become much longer, then I would prefer to see the 'list' moved down the article to its own section.Ed1964 (talk) 11:20, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
RcloneBrowser
[edit]Recently I have worked through a general description of rclone and the notable bits of its history. I have not done anything about RcloneBrowser[1] because I know little about it. Anybody else fancy a go?Ed1964 (talk) 14:49, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

Lists of backends supporting rclone and hpc sites using it
[edit]I have put in as comments the criteria currently that I used to populate these lists. Please discuss the criteria here before adding examples to the list not matching the criteria.Ed1964 (talk) 21:15, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

Examples (Wikipedia is not a manpage)
[edit]Current article lists what I think is the entire subcommand output and close to 15 examples. This is too excessive for an encyclopedia. It should list at most 5-6 key usage examples (highlights). The curl installation is especially out of place. --Voidvector (talk) 07:37, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
Yes, I see your point. I have been updating the page for a while and it is nice to get some comment from someone else.
The list of backends is something that was there early on and has pretty much been rendered unnecessary by the introductory statement which has examples in itself. How about the whole list of backends just be removed?
Now that you mention it I see the same applies to the list of commands. It was part of the early structure of the article but the introductory paragraph now contains maybe enough examples. Again, how about the man type listing of subcommands is just deleted.
Yes, again I would be happy to have a go at chopping out a lot of the command examples, just leaving the concept of the 'remote' and differences between sync and copy.
Yes, there is no useful purpose to the curl install example now that you mention.
How does that sound?
If you have any more comments I would be grateful. Although I don't have COI there have been edits in the past when I concluded I needed to make things less enthusiastic and I would especially appreciate another eye to check again. Ed1964 (talk) 09:10, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
I'm also thinking the list of hpc sites has ourlived itself? Ed1964 (talk) 10:56, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
Removed the man like listing of top level commands and thinned out the syntax examples to focus on ones that show how it can be used for real purposes rather than the 'how to use rclone' bits like curl, install, about and config. The suggestions from Voidvector were helpful. I have removed the manual and example farm tags on the basis of following the suggestions from the tag presenter and no further comments on the issue for two weeks. Rclone criminal usage section implies all rclone users are criminals, reword.
[edit]Hitler and Hirohito drank water, but there is no section in Water that documents all the evil people that drank it.
There could just be a #Usage section that congregates all users.
