The result of the proposal was consensus to move. I have also created Rajah (disambiguation); please take a look and edit as needed as I think this is my first dab page creation. Rajah now redirects to Raja (apparently main use). Hatnote at Raja also modified.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 16:22, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

[edit]

RajahRajah (dog) — On the 10th August there was a move by administrator Zzuuzz who moved Rajah (dog) to Rajah, but I'm not sure of the reasoning. The reason in the history is "unnecessary disambiguation, requested by AmeIiorate". I don't agree - Rajah in it's original language would be far more widely known than that of a NZ sheepdog. Rajah is actually a Sanskrit word for "Prince". Could we please have this move decision reconsidered? - Tbsdy lives (talk) 11:00, 11 August 2008 (UTC) — Tbsdy lives (talk) 11:00, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Any additional comments:
  • Comment - I've no opinion on the move which was requested and performed under the G6 non-controversial deletion process. I can make the move reversible if there is opposition. I look forward to hearing other opinions. -- zzuuzz (talk) 11:10, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • My reasoning behind requesting the move (I thought it was fairly non-controversial) was "Rajah" is the exact name of the dog and was was located at Rajah (dog). Rajah was a redirect to Raja. Therefore, Rajah (dog) was disambiguated over a redirect. I won't oppose or support rolling this back until some other's have commented and then I will happily see the decision reversed if need be. • Support Ah. I see what happened now. It was I who first moved the redirect on the Rajah page from Rajah (dog) to Raja when I found that all the Philippine articles with the word "Rajah" were getting sent to the dog. (And since it's a title of nobility, I'm afraid the effect was tragically comical.) The reason I find Rajah more appropriate redirected to Raja is that in the Philippine setting, the rank is more frequently spelled Rajah rather than Raja. (I could be wrong there, of course, as I have no stats to support that assertion). The redirect is not exactly appropriate because the Raja article refers mostly to the use of a similar, older term in India, which was eventually passed on to ancient Philippines. The Raja article only has a section heading that says the term has been adopted by cultures in Southeast Asia. I would, in fact, prefer that a Rajah (Philippines) article eventually be created, but as there are many more articles to be made concerning ancient Philippines, I don't think that's likely to happen very soon. -- Alternativity (talk) 13:18, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well, my thoughts are to move this article to Rajah (dog), then redirect Raja here. Then include a "See also" on the top of the article Raja that points to the disambig article. The reason I think this is a good idea is that if you wikilink Rajah, then you most likely want the actual definition of what Rajah means. - Tbsdy lives (talk) 11:52, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
