Helipad, Il-28 Beagle and Vampire
[edit]Google Earth reveals that the former RAF Heliopolis, now Egyptian Air Force HQ, is totally covered with buildings. There is very little to show for its former use as an airfield; no runways, hangars, or wide open spaces.
However, there are three small clues, more related to Egyptian AF than the original RAF use.
- A helipad
- An Il-28 Beagle (probably Egyptian AF serial 1776), positioned on a road-island
- A de Havilland Vampire (probably Egyptian AF, unknown serial)
The aircraft are either side of the helipad.
I can find nothing to support the above, other than my own work, so at present it fails WP:RS, WP:OR and worse. But one day the details might be revealed so that these items can be incorporated into the article. At the moment, I am not even sure that I can edit the article to mention that the Egyptian AF HQ is simply a collection of offices and barracks. As it stands, readers may well get the impression RAF Heliopolis is still an active air base, just not under RAF control. WendlingCrusader (talk) 12:31, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
