There is another national park with the very same name in the Greek side of the border [[1]]. The title should change to reflect this condition.Alexikoua (talk) 21:33, 9 April 2020 (UTC) According to this [[2]][[3]] the Prespa National Park is a tri-national park. Albania is one of the countries. Thus the article needs to describe the non-Albanian part of the park.Alexikoua (talk) 21:35, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That can be remedied through a clarification of the pagename: Prespa National Park (Albania). The pagename then can be used as the generic page Prespa National Park for the wider trinational park that says some things about it relating to all 3 countries. So far the Albanian portion of the park has an article fully developed. If other editors want to write up articles on the portion of the park in the other respective countries they can do so. Nice. We have an agreement on my first proposal about a move then.Alexikoua (talk) 19:08, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's a good idea to rename the article in Prespa National Park (Albania); (similar case with Glacier National Park in Canada and the United States).--Lorik17 (talk) 20:33, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Iaof2017, add a sentence (somewhere where you think it belongs) to the article about this park being part of/or an extension of the bigger Prespa national Park. Use RS sources you find or the ones listed by that other editor in the discussion. Best.Resnjari (talk) 20:44, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Resnjari:@Alexikoua: Hey, hope you're all safe and well. I agree with Resnjari's move, these are three different parks. The transboundary Prespa project was a planned park, but it has never actually been implemented. It has de facto been abandoned by all those involved in favor of the larger Prespa-Ohrid ecoregion.--Maleschreiber (talk) 15:33, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Maleschreiber:, do you have a RS source that says it was abandoned. If so, i'll correct some things for the article. Best.Resnjari (talk) 15:40, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly 10 years after the declaration, this process culminated in the signing of a legally binding quadrilateral agreement by the Ministers of Environment of Albania, Greece, the fYR of Macedonia and the EU Commissioner for the Environment. Oddly enough, the signing of this agreement was followed by a period of less intensive state co-operation in the WPA, which has lasted until very recently, due to the fact that Greece only ratified the agreement in spring 2017. Nevertheless, local actors, especially the NGOs, but also the local municipalities, have kept transboundary co-operation alive during these years. Furthermore, in 2014 the parts of the Prespa basin in Albania and the fYR of Macedonia, together with Lake Ohrid, were designated as a bilateral Transboundary Biosphere Reserve under the UNESCO Man and Biosphere programme.

  • Can you move one of the pics of the forest to the infobox?
  • There is a lot of content in the lead that doesn't appear in the body of the article
  • "The Prespa National Park is a national park situated in southeastern Albania on the border triangle shared with Greece and North Macedonia" - I'm not sure "triangle" adds anything here. Also, does it need the first "the"? Grand Canyon National Park starts just with the title of the park.
  • Do the same for the first sentence of the first two paragraphs of "Location", doesn't need the "the"
  • "It is considerably characterised by high mountains" - seems unnecessary
  • "Established to protect the natural and cultural heritage of the region" - might be worth mentioning (here or elsewhere in the lead) when it was established
  • "Both lakes are essentially situated between 850 and 900 metres elevation above the Adriatic.[7] Located about 150 metres above Lake Ohrid" - Imperial units
  • "Mali i Thatë separates the Great Prespa from Lake Ohrid, which is one of the most ancient lakes in the world" - given that it is an unusual name, you might want to clarify that it's a mountain
  • "Out of the 1130 species of flora and 174 species of fungus are distributed throughout the park." Two things. Does "1130 species" need a comma for the thousandth unit? Also, the grammar is off here. You start with a prepositional phrase "out of the...", but the verb "are distributed" doesn't have a noun to modify, but rather a prepositional phrase. Could you reword?
  • "Nonetheless, the park is dotted with many natural" - first word isn't needed. Also, cut the "and so on" at the end of the paragraph.
  • Could you reorganize the lead into two longer paragraphs, rather than five short ones? I suggest the first one be current paragraph 1, 3 (except for the tea bit), and 4, while the second one would be paragraph 2, the tea cultivation bit, and paragraph 5. That would divide it between the park's natural features, then you'd have the paragraph involving humans (cultivation, the trade route, its designation as a park).
  • "is strategically located" - why the "strategically"?
  • "2,100 hectares (21 km2) of the park's territory is agricultural land, while 5,372 hectares (53.72 km2) is classified as unproductive land. " - bit of a nitpick, but you're not supposed to start a sentence with a unit. I suggest starting with "Agricultural land comprises 2,100 hectares..."
  • "The Great Prespa Lake is shared between Albania in the west, North Macedonia in the northeast and Greece to the southeast" - why not "Greece in the southeast"? You use "to"
  • "849 and 853 metres" - add non-metric units
  • Much of the second paragraph of "Location" is unsourced
  • "Between the mountains in the west, there is a narrow outlet of which the lake drains during floods of heavy rainfall and in spring during the snow melt to the Devoll River, which flows through the central mountain range of Albania until it discharges into the Adriatic Sea on the Mediterranean Sea. " - that's a really long sentence. Could you split it up?
  • " It is quite unique due to the diverse relief" - I don't get what the last two words mean
  • "The park is a significant natural landscape comprising outstanding representation of connected ecosystems whose extent and intactness provides for a contrasting and rich biodiversity including naturally and culturally significant species." - that's a really long sentence for the first sentence of a paragraph
  • "The country's sections of the lakes, covered by reed beds, are approximately about 500 ha in surface" - add metric unit (hectare is non-metric, right?)
  • "They have great conservation value as they provide a good breeding and roosting site for a variety birds and other species." - source?
  • "The pelagic zone covers the deep, mainly naturally, non-vegetated parts of the lakes, where emergent plants cannot grow. The littoral zone is the near shore area covering the vegetated parts comprising both terrestrial and emergent, tree or shrub, vegetation. The riverine zone encompasses some of the largest and most diverse stream and channel systems in the region, including extensive wetlands, floodplains and mangroves that support vast numbers of water birds and other aquatic and marine species" - ref?
  • "The oak is one of the most common species of tree in the park, which in size and density represent a special feature in the park." - I don't get what the special feature is
  • "As we climb from the hills to the mountainous area" - don't use "we"
  • "Areas of grassland with alpine and sub-alpine meadows and pastures dominate much of the crests and eastern slopes of Mali i Thatë and provide an important habitat for the diverse wildlife that lives in abundance here. Although alpine tundra conditions also prevail, with grasses and small plants with a high level of endemism." -ref?
  • "The landscapes of the park have evolved, together with the floral and faunal resources, as part of the evolution of the Prespa Lake Basin some million years ago. The availability of water, influenced by the configuration of the terrain, has a great impact on the biodiversity of this region. The diversity of habitats in the park provides many different resources for several threatened and endangered species as well as species currently maintaining the conservation status of least concern. " - ref? And "some million years ago" doesn't sit right with me.
  • " birds are without question the park's most numerous class of animal" - it doesn't need the "without question"
  • Are there links for the parks in North Macedonia and Greece?
  • "and the three parks are effectively run as three different park" - can you reword to cut down on redundancy?
  • "Consequently, the Prespa-Ohrid Nature Trust was founded in 2015." - what became of this?

So the article isn't bad. I enjoyed the read, but felt there were some issues that might take some time to address. Still, I'm not one for failing GAN's right away, so I'll leave this open for a week and see what kind of progress is made. Let me know if you have any questions about my review. Thanks for working on this article! ^_^ ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 20:12, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
