Hardware specs missing

[edit]

We need to add the Hardware Specs as soon as possible. Cyclone26 (talk) 18:05, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

They have just been added, but please be patient. There is only one of me, and we're all volunteers. There's no rush. InfiniteNexus (talk) 18:17, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I was referring to the infobox, but if you are talking about the Hardware section, I am working on that as well. InfiniteNexus (talk) 18:18, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Country Of Manufacture missing

[edit]

I think this is something people are increasingly wanting to know 122.104.128.132 (talk) 22:57, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a source that states where it is being manufactured? I did hear about the announcement about India in 2024, but I haven't found the time to add that in. InfiniteNexus (talk) 02:45, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Actua" vs "Super Actua"

[edit]

This article mentions the marketing terms for the displays "Actua" and "Super Actua" but does not define the difference between the two.

My first attempt to address this was reverted for using too much Google marketing terms: http://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Pixel_8&oldid=1190781561, i.e. Google markets "Super Actua" as capable of displaying true-to-life Ultra HDR photos in direct sunlight.

How should the article define the difference then? Google doesn't explicitly define the differences beyond this, Actua is 42% brighter than the Pixel 7, and Super Actua is the brightest Google phone display.

If we look at the Google Store, it says: https://store.google.com/product/pixel_8_pro?hl=en-US

The Pixel 8 Pro's "Super Actua" does 1 - 120 Hz, Up to 1600 nits (HDR) and up to 2400 nits (peak brightness), the Pixel 8's "Actua" does 60 - 120 Hz, Up to 1400 nits (HDR) and up to 2000 nits (peak brightness), and the Pixel Fold, without a marketing term for the display, does up to 120 Hz, Up to 1200 nits (HDR) and up to 1550 nits (peak brightness).

But it's not clear that those specific values define the "Actua" and "Super Actua" either. Rocketwidget (talk) 02:38, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is trivial information that would only interest a particular audience. InfiniteNexus (talk) 06:38, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DisplayPort alt-mode over USB-C: To include or not to include?

[edit]

The Pixel 8 supports DisplayPort alt-mode over its USB-C port, however, while both the hardware and the software it ships with support DP, it is disabled in software by default. It is possible to enable it with a single command (setprop persist.vendor.usb.displayport.enabled 1) entered into a root shell. However, this requires unlocking the device's bootloader and booting into a modified boot image providing root access to issue the command. It is then possible to continue using the feature without root access, but I don't think this persists following a factory reset. If someone wants to then re-lock the bootloader, the process will factory reset the phone, probably disabling the feature again.

It might be worth mentioning this in the article, but given the lack of official support and the caveats, the caveats should also be mentioned if the DP feature is included in the article. 64.121.175.224 (talk) 16:05, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm very curious about this. It will definitely be worth inclusion in this article if speculation proves true and Google officially enables external display support with a software update in the future. Google Pixel 8 could support external displays via USB-C in future — here’s how | Tom's Guide (tomsguide.com) Rocketwidget (talk) 19:12, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Speculation" is exactly the key word here. For now, this is WP:CRYSTAL. InfiniteNexus (talk) 20:31, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pixel 8 Issues

[edit]

Should we have a neutral point of view in this article or hide its issues? Anyone thinks we should hide issues and not have a neutral point of view? 85.48.187.166 (talk) 20:54, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As explained to you twice, this material violates WP:NOTCHANGELOG. We don't list every little software bug or issue. It is not "NPOV". InfiniteNexus (talk) 22:36, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Missing information on international variants

[edit]

There are several different models of google pixel 8 sold around the world. It would be nice to see some information on the variants. 2607:FF68:6:E:50:0:0:1 (talk) 15:44, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
