USGS error

[edit]

The GNIS entry for the stream is in error when compared with the USGS topographic maps of the area. The gnis data places the confluence one minute of latitude south of the map location. The problem seems to be due in part to the confluence being adjacent to the boundary between the two quadrangles involved with the confluence not appearing on the Bonne Terre Quad and the stream appearing to end at the quadrangle boundary. So a mapping glitch in 1958 was compounded by another error when the GNIS record was made in 1991. To further complicate things - the topo sheet doesn't identify the stream by name. So it seems rather problematic and, yes I've done a bit of WP:OR "detective work" trying to figure it all out. So what's the best solution to fix this WP:ORing on my part? ... dunno Cheers, Vsmith (talk) 04:20, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
